Millie Bobby Brown eyes continued Netflix dominance with Nineteen Steps adaptation

Netflix is Millie Bobby Brown's house, and she lives here! After conquering dragons and the Upside Down for the streaming service, the young and by far brightest Netflix star looks to maintain her Netflix Queen crown with the film adaptation of her debut novel Nineteen Steps, which is in the works at the streamer per Deadline's exclusive report.

Brown released the historical fiction bestseller Nineteen Steps in September 2023, and according to Deadline, the Emmy Award-nominated Stranger Things star will produce and potentially appear in the adaptation of her book. The outlet also reports that Anthony McCarten will write the screenplay, with additional producing from Jonathan Eirich and executive producing from Nick Reynolds.

After breaking out in the pop culture phenomenon sci-fi horror series Stranger Things, Brown has continued to collaborate with Netflix and completely dominate with each role. So far, she has starred in three hit movies on Netflix — Enola Holmes and its sequel and Damsel — with a fourth on the way in early 2025 (March, according to Deadline), the Russo Brothers' sci-fi flick The Electric State.

Netflix adapting Millie Bobby Brown's book into a movie

When Brown first announced Nineteen Steps, it seemed like a no brainer that she would eventually pursue a screen adaptation as both a successful actress and producer with an eye for creative titles. Obviously given her relationship with Netflix, the streamer would be the perfect home for a story as personal to her as that of her debut novel, which was inspired by her family's experiences in WWII.

As Nineteen Steps sets its republishing in paperback on Sept. 12, there's no official word yet from Netflix about the potential film adaptation as of this writing. Clearly, bringing the book to the Netflix screen appears to still be in very early days. But before the story she crafted comes to life, there's still plenty of Millie Bobby Brown to come on Netflix!

As previously mentioned, Brown will star in The Electric State on Netflix sometime next year, and the fifth and final season of Stranger Things makes its premiere in 2025 on the streamer. Filming remains ongoing on season 5, but the Eleven star recently shared a collection of behind the scenes photos from the set of the bittersweet yet highly anticipated new season.

In addition to Nineteen Steps being in the works on Netflix, reports have confirmed that another Enola Holmes sequel has also been in development at the streamer. The first two teen sleuth movies premiered on Netflix in 2020 and 2022 and enjoyed both acclaim and popularity. But nothing came quite close to the numbers Brown reached with 2024's Damsel.

The dark fantasy movie based on the book of the same name currently ranks as the seventh most popular English-language Netflix original movie of all time with 138 million views and counting. That's what makes Millie Bobby Brown such a dynamic force to be reckoned with on Netflix. People want to watch her tell stories, and she was a captivating one to tell with her novel.
