Meet the cast playing Claire and Jamie's parents in Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood

Jamie and Claire were destined to meet and be together, there's just no argument about that! And there's two more couples who I think are going to be in the same boat, and we're going to be invested in their love stories too. And that would be Claire and Jamie's parents in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel series from the beloved show!

News about Blood of My Blood came back in 2022, but it was announced today (Feb. 5, 2024) that filming has officially started on the new series. And since production is now underway, that means we have the main characters cast! They are: Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser, Hermoine Corfield as Julia Moriston, and Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp.

The new show will tell the origin stories of each of the couples. The "two parallel love stories" will take place in 18th century Scotland, while the other is set during WWI England," per the synopsis. There is no release date on Starz yet. And though Outlander is not a Netflix Original and we're still not sure whether Blood of My Blood will ever be added here, I know a lot of you have become fans and can't wait for all the seasons to be added to Netflix. So you've headed over to Starz to watch! We need to keep you updated too.

Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, whose novels the flagship series is based on, is currently writing on an untitled book about Jamie's parents, Ellen and Brian. However as far as we know right now, Claire's parents Julia and Henry, are not going to be a part of that story. The author is a consulting producer on the upcoming production, so it will be interesting to see what elements inspired from her make it into the show, and what doesn't.

Overall when it comes to Jamie and Claire's parents, the show hasn't given us much information about them. Though, we do know more about Ellen and Brian than Claire's parents. Ellen is Colum and Dougal's sister and died in childbirth when Jamie was young. She and Brian end up running away so they can be together.

Slater's most notable role is Sandra Onslow on Pennyworth, which ran for three seasons. She's also been a part of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Belgravia: The Next Chapter. The actress has an upcoming role in the movie Tarot.

Jamie usually talks about his dad a bit more, and that's probably because the Highlander has more memories of his father. Brian passes away shortly after Jamie's arrest and flogging at Fort William the very first time. From Jamie's retellings, his parents truly loved each other and I'm so excited to see that play out! Roy is a Scot through and through! His previous roles include Condor's Nest, Squeaky Clean Mysteries: Hazardous Duty, Your Boyfriend is Mine, and Picture Perfect Lies.

When it comes to Claire's parents, neither Gabaldon nor the Outlander series has really given us much informatin about them. Not who they were or what they did. That probably has to do with the fact that both of them died in a car crash when Claire was five years old. Like Jamie when it comes to his mom, she doesn't have many memories with her parents.

Corfield has begun to make a name for herself in the industry, and I'm sure being a part of the Outlander universe will open up even more opportunities for the actress! Her acting projects include Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Fallen, XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and The Misfits starring Pierce Brosnan.

Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp

Last but certainly not least is Jeremy Irvine as Claire's father Henry Beauchamp. As mentioned above, there aren't details about the character from the books or show. So I'm really looking forward to getting he and Julia's backstory, as well as their love story!

The British actor got his start thanks to the movie War Horse as the main lead. You may also recognize him as a younger version of Sam in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. His other acting credits include Great Expectations, The Last Full Measure, and Benediction. He has an upcoming role in the movie Return to Silent Hill. Plus, fun fact! He and his onscreen wife, Corfield, were both in the movie Fallen together. It was meant to be!
