Martial arts drama Warrior to stream on Netflix after Max cancellation

It's always sad to learn that another show has been canceled. Fortunately, it's not one of our beloved Netflix series this time around, but it's still a show that many people enjoyed watching. Max, formerly HBO Max, has officially given Warrior the boot. There will not be a fourth season of the martial arts crime drama series on Max.

Throughout 2023, Netflix and many other streamers have been renewing shows that fare well or show potential and canceling shows that aren't received well or that not many people are watching. Shadow and Bone, Glamorous, Welcome to Eden, Lockwood & Co., Freeridge and 1899 are just some of the unfortunate Netflix cancellations of 2023.

While the reason for Warrior's cancelation is unknown, it's been speculated that the cancellation stemmed from low viewership for the show's latest season. But again, this is just speculation.

It's not all bad news, though. It's been reported that all three seasons of the martial arts crime drama series will be landing on Netflix in February 2024. An exact Netflix release date has not been revealed yet. We'll share it once it's known. It's also important to mention that the show will still be available to stream on Max once it lands on Netflix.

Created by Jonathan Tropper, Warrior is set during the Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 1870s. It follows Chinese martial arts prodigy Ah Sahm, who immigrates to the U.S. in search of his sister, only to end up becoming a hatchet man for one of the most powerful tongs in Chinatown.

Andrew Koji stars as the protagnoist, Ah Sahm. Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Joanna Vanderham, and many others join him in the cast.

Could Netflix pick up Warrior for a fourth season?

According to Deadline, there is a chance that Netflix could pick up the martial arts drama for a fourth season, but it all comes down to how many people watch the series when it comes to the streaming platform. The news outlet reported that if Warrior does well on Netflix, the streaming giant "could presumably order a new season of the drama based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee."

There isn't any confirmation that this will happen, but Deadline says they've been told by "sources" that this could happen. So, if you'd like to see a Warrior season 4, make sure to stream all three seasons when they arrive on Netflix to better the chances.

Executive producer Shannon Lee had this to say about the show's new home on Netflix.

"If anything can be said about Warrior, with Bruce Lee in our corner, our indomitable spirit is REAL! And so, my wish is that the huge global Netflix audience LOVES Warrior and from that Love more goodness flows – in the form of greater recognition for our talented cast and crew who deserve all the things, in the form of passionate fandom for this relevant kick ass show and, if I dare to dream, in the form of an opportunity to continue our story for our amazing fans who, thanks to Netflix, will have grown in number and enthusiasm!"

It looks like Lee also hopes that there will be a fourth season. That's good to know.
