The cameras are currently rolling in the United Kingdom on the upcoming Netflix crime-comedy The Thursday Murder Club, and Lucifer star Tom Ellis has just been announced to join the cast. More on this new movie and Ellis's casting below.

We first learned of this film back in April 2024 when it was announced that Netflix had joined forces with Amblin Entertainment to make it. Amblin had previously acquired worldwide rights to the film after a competitive auction. This movie is the latest to come out of Netflix and Amblin's film partnership, which also includes the upcoming action film Carry-On.

Chris Columbus (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Christmas Chronicles 2) was announced to be writing, producing, and directing the movie, with Jennifer Todd also producing and Holly Bario, Jeb Brody, Eleanor Columbus, and Jo Burn executive producing. Based on Richard Osman’s 2020 bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club tells the story of four unlikely friends living in a retirement home who take on cold cases for fun. But everything takes a left turn when they find themselves caught in a real case.

Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley were the first actors announced to have joined the cast. Mirren plays ex-spy Elizabeth, while Kingsley plays ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, and Brosnan plays former union activist Ron. They are three members of the friend group. Celia Imrie joined the cast later and was revealed to be playing the fourth member in the friend group, ex-nurse Joyce.

David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes would also join the cast later, followed now by Ellis, Richard E. Grant, Geoff Bell, Paul Freeman, Sarah Niles, and Ingrid Oliver. Unfortunately, it's unknown at the moment who Ellis and the other actors just listed will be playing in the film. However, we'll definitely make sure to share their characters' names once they're revealed.

That's all we know about The Thursday Murder Club as of right now. As we learn new information, we'll return to share everything we found. So, make sure to stay tuned to Netflix Life!
