Purple Hearts star Sofia Carson returning to Netflix with Taron Egerton thriller Carry On

We’ve just received word that Purple Hearts star Sofia Carson has joined an upcoming Netflix thriller titled Carry On, which is already set to star Rocketman‘s Taron Egerton and Ozark‘s Jason Bateman. We shared everything we know about Carson’s casting and the thriller flick right below.

Sofia Carson‘s casting in Carry On comes right after the major success of her romantic drama film Purple Hearts, which premiered on Netflix on July 29. It quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest summer releases of 2022, although it received much criticism.

This is why it comes as no surprise that Netflix has decided to work with the Purple Hearts star again. Plus, this wouldn’t be the first time Carson has worked with the streamer. She already has three Netflix original movies currently streaming, such as Feel the Beat, My Little Pony: A New Generation and My Little Pony: A New Generation: Sing-Along.

Back in June 2021, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment partnered with Netflix to make movies for the streamer. Carry On marks the first film to come out of the partnership. Jaume Collet-Serra, who is known for directing the horror films House of Wax, Orphan, The Shallows and Black Adam, signed on to direct the movie from a screenplay written by TJ Fixman. Michael Green also assisted with writing the script.

What is Carry On about?

Netflix provided us with a synopsis and we shared it below:

"The story centers around Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent who’s blackmailed by a mysterious traveler. Ethan is forced to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight, inducing perhaps the most airport anxiety ever."

Who will Sofia Carson play in Carry On?

Carson’s role in the movie is undisclosed at the moment. There have only been four cast members announced so far. We shared the actors’ names below.

• Jason Bateman (rumored to be playing the mysterious traveler)
• Sofia Carson
• Danielle Deadwyler

Is Carry On filming?

According to What’s on Netflix, production is planned to start on Sept. 26 and run through to Dec. 16. The news outlet also reported that filming would take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Cleveland, Ohio. However, keep in mind that this production schedule has not been confirmed.

Carry On release updates

There isn’t an official release date yet. Since it’s still early in the filmmaking process, we’re not expecting to hear of a release date announcement any time soon. However, our best release prediction would be sometime in 2023.
