That's amore! La Dolce Villa will star Scott Foley and Maia Reficco as father and daughter

Are you ready for another Netflix original romantic comedy? From wine country to Ireland and other romantic places around the globe, the streamer's original rom-coms have been set in some of the most wonderful locations that set quite the perfect scene. For the upcoming movie La Dolce Villa, we're heading to Italy with two super-familiar faces.

On Feb. 29, Netflix officially announced La Dolce Villa, which will star Felicity and Scandal alum Scott Foley and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Do Revenge star Maia Reficco. In the movie, the pair will play a father and daughter, who find themselves in Italy for very different reasons. But in the end, they might actually discover a similar outcome to their Italian adventure.

La Dolce Villa comes from director Mark Waters, who has directed such movies as Freaky Friday, Mean Girls (2004), Just Like Heaven, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Vampire Academy, as well as the Netflix movies He's All That and Mother of the Bride. Clearly, he knows a thing or two about a romantic comedy. The movie also comes from writers Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy, who are known for writing Netflix's Falling Inn Love and A Perfect Pairing.

Plot

If you have watched any of Netflix's original romantic comedy movies, then you likely have a pretty good idea of how La Dolce Villa will operate. When Eric (Scott Foley) follows his daughter Olivia (Maia Reficco) to Italy, he attempts to thwart her plan to put all of her money into a dilapidated villa she bought on the cheap. But he also just might find his own love story in Italy, too.

"Eric, a successful businessman, travels to Italy to stop his daydreaming daughter, Olivia, from blowing her life savings on restoring a crumbling villa she purchased for one euro. Italy, however, has different plans for him as it delivers on its legendary promise of beauty, magic, and romance. "

Can Italy make a believer out of the clearly cynical Eric? Will Olivia stay in Italy and spruce up her new villa? Are Eric and Olivia both going to find love in Italy? All of these questions will be answered in what's sure to be one of the must-watch movies coming to Netflix. Since the movie's just starting to enter production by spring 2024, expect the movie to arrive sometime in 2025.

Cast

Scott Foley (age 51) and Maia Reficco (age 23) both lead the cast of the movie, and they are both well-known stars... though probably to different generations. Foley's best known for his work in the film Scream 3, but he's better known for his work on the small screen in Felicity, The Unit, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Whiskey Cavalier, The Big Leap, and the upcoming The Girls on the Bus.

Meanwhile, Maia Reficco got her start in the Nickelodeon Latin America series Kally's Mashup before landing a leading role in Max's Pretty Little Liars reboot Original Sin. The series will return for a second season dubbed Summer School. Reficco also starred in the hit Netflix teen comedy film Do Revenge and will next be seen in the action film One Fast Move.

The names and descriptions for Placido and Futia's characters haven't yet been formally announced by Netflix, but just based on their ages and the fact that the movie's a rom-com, they will likely play love interests for Foley and Reficco's characters.

Placido has been seen in such movies as The American and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. She's also a singer-songwriter. Futia has credits in the Italian films Still Out of My League and Backstage: dietro le quinte, but he's likely best known as a model.
