Joseph Quinn teases fans (again) about potentially returning as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things season 5

Quit playing coy with us Quinn! But fingers crossed that our beloved metalhead will return to our screens soon.

Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn recently attended a fan convention in Belgium and teased that he might actually be returning as the fan-favorite character Eddie Munson for the upcoming fifth and final season of the series.

No, he didn't confirm he'll be back, but Quinn has rather famously been playing coy about his knowledge of the show for years now, ever since the fourth season aired its behemoth finale and in it, his character (SPOILER!) bit the dust in the Upside Down.

That being said, the answer he gave to a fan question this past weekend at the FACTS Convention (a Belgian comic con), was a little different than his usual response.

Someone asked the English actor if he would be back for season 5 and instead of his usual exasperated, "I don't know," response, the actor said he does, in fact, know the answer to that question, "But I'm not telling you." Damn. Teased again by Quinn. Check out the interaction yourself in the following video shared by the convention.

Fans have taken to comparing Joseph Quinn to Andrew Garfield

Given the non-answers and outright rejections Quinn has been supplementing to the question of whether or not he's returning for season 5, many fans have started comparing the actor to Andrew Garfield, who infamously remained adamant that he would not be in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Obviously, it turned out that Garfield had been lying since both he and Tobey Maguire returned to play their versions of Peter Parker alongside Tom Holland's.

In 2022, Garfield told Ellen DeGeneres on her show that he "lied to the internet for two years and it felt great." Who knows? Maybe after Stranger Things season 5 airs, Quinn will get to make similar statements!

A recent journalistic snafu lends credence to the theory that Eddie will return

Quinn's shifty non-answer during the FACTS Convention might be backed up by a recent TVLine mistype from February 2024. A TVLine writer allegedly mistyped that Quinn was busy "in production on the final season of Stranger Things." Screenshots circulated like wildfire on X (formerly Twitter) and many believed that the writer of that article had just let a big secret slip.

However, there are plenty of explanations that don't involve Quinn being on Stranger Things season 5's set. The writer might simply have forgotten his character died or typed it without thinking. It's hardly concrete proof that Eddie will be back.

And if Quinn is indeed back on set, it's kind of hard to believe that photographic proof wouldn't have leaked yet, seeing as many other Stranger Things photos have already. But you never know! Maybe they've got him filming in a top-secret location to keep his return under lock and key.

I imagine that if Eddie does return, it will be him as a ghost or maybe a flashback or dream sequence. I doubt that the writers will actually bring him back from the dead, as Stranger Things hasn't done that with any character thus far.

The closest the show has come to reviving someone was when Dacre Montgomery returned after his character Billy died, but it was only for a minor scene in which Vecna used his memory to terrorize Max. Something similar could be in the cards for Eddie.

Otherwise, Joseph Quinn is a busy busy man these days. His big horror movie A Quiet Place: Day One releases in theaters on June 28, 2024 and he'll also star in Gladiator II alongside Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Pedro Pascal, which is slated to premiere on November 22, 2024.

In addition to both of those films, Quinn was recently announced as part of the cast of Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four movie where he'll play Johnny Storm/Human Torch and he is attached to star in Alex Garland's next movie Warfare.
