Jenna Ortega's film Miller's Girl coming to Netflix (Here's when to watch)

Jenna Ortega, the rising star of Hollywood, reaffirms her status as one to watch with her latest role in the erotic thriller film Miller’s Girl. While we witnessed her delve into a darker character in Wednesday, this portrayal exudes a more mature and sophisticated shade of darkness.  

Ortega is no stranger to Netflix, having starring roles in You, Yes Day, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Wednesday. While Wednesday is one of the streaming platform's most popular series, her latest project, Miller’s Girl, did not initially premiere on Netflix. Instead, the movie headed to theaters on Jan. 26. But in April 2024, the movie will be on our watch lists.

As announced by Netflix on April 3, the film starring Ortega and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman will begin streaming on Netflix on Thursday, April 25. Like most new releases on the platform, the movie will drop at midnight PDT, which is 3 a.m. EDT. If you're missing Wednesday real bad, and missed the movie in theaters, you might be attempting to stay up late to catch it right away.

What is Miller's Girl about?

While Jenna Ortega is no stranger to horror/thriller films, this role differs from what we’re used to seeing her in. In Miller’s Girl, Ortega portrays Cairo Sweet, a creative writing student who quickly becomes fond of her professor, Mr. Miller, played by Martin Freeman.

After a creative writing assignment, the two find themselves in a complicated relationship. It’s usually the older male teacher seducing the younger female student, but in this case, the student seduces the teacher.

While teacher and student relationships in film and TV aren’t new, I’m curious to see if fans will react positively or negatively. Will it make a difference since Cairo is of age or will it still be cringe? Watch the trailer for the intriguing film below.

Miller's Girl was written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett and produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. At the time of its release in January, there was no word of whether or when the film would be released on a streaming service after its theatrical run. The most likely option to stream had been Starz, though the film's distributor, Lionsgate, recently made a streaming deal with Peacock, but now we know the movie is headed for Netflix.
