My, how time flies! We're almost in the fifth month of the year, and we've already seen so many great releases on Netflix. In May 2024, we'll be seeing many more interesting titles be added to the streaming platform such as A Man in Full, Unfrosted, Bodkin, Mother of The Bride, Blood of Zeus season 2, and last but definitely not least, Bridgerton season 3.
While we're over the moon about these upcoming releases, we can't help but think about all the licensed content that's set to leave Netflix in May. Unfortunately, one of those titles is Where the Crawdads Sing. It was first added to Netflix in November 2022, so it's been on the streamer for a while now. It looks like Netflix only obtained the streaming rights to the movie for about a year and a half since it's scheduled to depart the streaming platform on Sunday, May 12, 2024. This means the last day you'll be able to watch it on Netflix is May 11.
May 12 is not too far away, so we strongly recommend watching this movie before it leaves Netflix. However, if you don't get to it in time, you'll still have the option to rent or purchase the film digitally through Amazon Video, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, or the Microsoft Store.
Where the Crawdads Sing is a mystery drama film helmed by Olivia Newman from a screenplay written by Lucy Alibar. You might recognize Newman from her previous work on the Netflix drama film First Match. She wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. In addition, Alibar is known for co-writing the screenplay for the fantasy-drama film Beasts of the Southern Wild.
If you're wondering why Where the Crawdads Sing sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you read the novel it's based on. It's a film adaptation of the 2018 book of the same name by Delia Owens. The story centers around a young woman named Kya Clark, who was forced to raise herself to adulthood in a dangerous North Carolina marshland after her family walked out on her. She soon meets two different young men whom she opens up to and learns from. But when one of them is found dead, her life is turned upside down when she's made the main suspect and is tried for murder.
Golden Globe nominated actress Daisy Edgar-Jones stars in the leading role of Kya. She's best known for her starring role as Marianne Sheridan in the psychological drama miniseries Normal People. She also played the role of Noa in the Hulu horror thriller film Fresh, and Brenda Lafferty in the true crime drama miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven.
Sharp Objects star Taylor John Smith and Triangle of Sadness' Harris Dickinson portray the two men that Kya meets and becomes close to. Smith plays the role of Tate Walker, while Dickinson plays Chase Andrews.
