Interview with the Vampire season 1 ending explained
By Mark Lynch
Interview with the Vampire is a show no one is talking about. At least not enough. The AMC program has satisfied fans of Anne Rice’s books and added to what was missing from the 1994 movie starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Sure, there were changes, but that’s to be expected. The source material doesn’t always work especially after decades of being released.
Season 1 of Interview with the Vampire ends with a cliffhanger that may have been confusing. If you’re one of those people, allow this writer to break down the important parts so you can enjoy season 2 (now streaming on AMC+).
Claudia kills Lestat
Lestat wouldn’t allow Louis to leave him. Louis tried once and was almost killed for it. Claudia loved Louis so much that she wouldn’t abandon him. So she came up with a plan. Once that failed, she knew there was only one way for them to escape. She had to kill Lestat. A job that was easier said than done.
Lestat has someone following Louis and Claudia and reporting back to him. This meant he knew their every move. However, Claudia adjusts her scheme. Instead of killing “Uncle” Lestat, Claudia poisons the man Lestat later consumes, leaving Lestat choking as he coughs up blood.
Instead of letting Lestat die in pain, Louis cuts his love’s throat. The only thing left was to burn the body and leave New Orleans. Unfortunately, Louis couldn’t kill him. Instead, he and Claudia leave Lestat's body in a trunk on the curb with the trash.
If you’ve seen horror movies, you know you can’t leave a body without disposing of it properly. Lestat’s body is taken to the dump where, as Daniel Molloy put it, there are rats as big as Kevin Durant’s sneakers. Large enough for Lestat to feed on and bring himself back to health.
Daniel Molloy's first interview
As Daniel pushes Louis with what he’s learned. As Louis tries to calm himself, Armand reveals he’s a vampire and was there the night of their first interview. Armand says that he stops Louis from killing him that night in San Fransisco. Unfortunately, things aren’t what they seem. Armand lied about the most important parts of Louis’ life. Among them was when Louis tried to kill himself.
WARNING! SPOILERS FOR INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE SEASON 2
After Louis heals from walking into the sunlight, he and Armand deal with Daniel. Besides knowing too much about the life of vampires, Armand spends days torturing Daniel. Even if Daniel doesn't expose vampires being real, he can still go to the police. Armand and Louis decide to falsify the events of that night with mind manipulation. However, Armand does the same to Louis.
Armand says he does it for Louis, but later events of season 2 show that most of Armand’s time with Louis seemed manipulative. It looks like even this moment was used to keep Louis with him. Sadly, the interview isn't the first traumatic event that Armand used for his gain. Stay tuned to Netflix Life for more on that story.
