There's an opening for Bodkin season 2 (but it doesn't need to happen)

We only see one way that Bodkin season 2 could happen on Netflix

The new Netflix crime series, Bodkin, premiered on May 9. It's a really good show from Jez Scharf that's set in a remote Irish town and follows three podcasters investigating a mysterious cold case. I have so many good things to say about this show, including what I'm about to say about Bodkin season 2.

I know viewers are going to have some questions about the ending. While most of the storylines were wrapped up, the door is still a little bit open on Bodkin season 2. I'm not saying it's going to happen. We're still waiting for Scharf, Will Forte, Robyn Cara, Siobhán Cullen, and the rest of the team at Netflix to share any news about season 2. It seems like a long shot, honestly, given how well of a job the team did with season 1 and its ending. But, if there's one thing Netflix likes to do, it's explore further opportunities for its hit shows! We've seen in the past "limited series" become, well, rather unlimited series, so there's always a chance Netflix pursues another season, especially if the show becomes as popular as I think it has the potential to be.

So, let's talk about Bodkin season 2! Spoilers ahead for the season 1 finale of Bodkin.

Here's how Bodkin season 2 can happen

Again, Netflix has not renewed Bodkin for season 2 yet. We don't even know if anyone is interested in making the season. If season 2 was completely off the table, why end the first season the way it ended?

In the Bodkin season 1 finale, Gilbert decides to trash the podcast series and find a new job, a real job of sorts. He doesn't know what's next, but he showed profound growth over his time in Ireland, as did Dove and Emmy. Displaying new self-confidence, Emmy demands -- and gets -- Dove's old job as a reported for The Guardian. Shockingly, Dove becomes a podcaster! She returns to the convent where she lived to tell that story.

But, what happened to Seamus? That's the season 2 story, I think, that works for Bodkin.

As you'll recall, Seamus used the trigger to set off the massive explosion that sent the eels flying through the air. At first glance, I thought that Seamus killed the McArdles and escaped. It appears that the sheets that they were wearing are left on the beach along with the boat Seamus was using to escape and the trigger device for the explosives.

What happened to Seamus? Did he live? Did the McArdles take him? Did he kill them and escape? That's what I want to know.

Assuming Seamus escaped, there's more to this story! Imagine the scenario that Emmy, working the beat at The Guardian, gets a tip that Jackie McFadden, also known as the Badger, also known as Seamus Gallagher, is still alive and operating somewhere. She enlists the help of Dove and Gilbert for the story. With a hop, skip, and jump, the gang's back together, and the game is afoot.

I would watch that story! And, that's pretty much the only way I see this story continuing for season 2.

Of course, it's going to take a lot for that to happen. First, the cast and creators have to be all-in on continuing this story. To me, it seems like they've done what they set out to do, so I don't know if there's going to be that level of interest.

On top of that, viewers need to watch and spread the word about the great first season. If enough people tune in, Netflix could renew it for season 2.

That's where things stand following the finale of Bodkin. We'll share more news about the series when we find out!
