Here's one character who (sadly) won't be back in Stranger Things season 5
Stranger Things is great at introducing awesome side characters that we all fall in love with in a new season. And then, they kill them off. Saying goodbye to Eddie Munson still hurts. It hurts bad, people. And based on a leaked behind-the-scenes image, he's definitely not coming back. I'm holding back my tears.
But in Stranger Things season 4, one side character who made it out alive was hilarious Surfer Boy Pizza stoner Argyle! He was such a fun addition to the cast, and his character added moments of comedy where we really needed it. After all, there's so many intense moments in this show!
Right now the cast is in Atlanta filming, and production is finally back on track following the writers and actors strikes (check out the social media post below!). And while we thought Argyle was going to be in Stranger Things season 5, it seems like that sadly won't be the case.
During an interview with Steve Varley, Argyle actor Eduardo Franco shared that he hasn't gotten any word from production that they want him back for the final season. And given that filming is now underway, it seems unlikely. @SThingsSpoilers shared a clip from Varley's interview on X, and here's what Franco had to say when asked if he's going to be in season 5:
"It’s nice to hear that there’s some kind of concern or something, but I never got a phone call, so I think that’s it."
This is disappointing news as a fan because Argyle really did become a character that we all liked. He also played a crucial role in helping the California Crew save Eleven and get back to Hawkins. But alas, even though he drove them all to the town in Indiana, it doesn't seem like he's going to stay there. Honestly, that Surfer Boy Pizza-loving guy has too big of a personality (in a good way!) to stay in a place like Hawkins. He needs to get back to California.
Story wise, this also makes sense. With the threat of Vecna still looming and the Upside Down now seeping into Hawkins, the whole gang is going to need to stick together to hopefully save their home once and for all. That means Joyce, Will, Jonathan, and El are probably moving back to help out. Plus, you know. Jim is back. Yay! Father and daughter are more than likely going to want to stay in Hawkins too.
I'm going to miss Argyle onscreen. But Franco is already moving on to other projects. You can catch him in Jake Johnson's new movie Self Reliance on Hulu. I'm sure the actor is going to go on to do more great things, and we'll support him every step of the way!
