As mentioned, the sequel to the 1996 sports comedy is reportedly in the works with Netflix, which aligns with Adam Sandler's ongoing relationship with the streaming service.

Adam Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions, has a longstanding deal with Netflix, and he has produced and starred in several films for the platform such as Murder Mystery 2, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, along with voicing the title character in the animated film Leo.

However, at this time Netflix has yet to officially comment on the sequel's development, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, a representative for Adam Sandler also declined to comment on the sequel.

As of March 23, 2024, there is no confirmed release date for Happy Gilmore 2. However, fans shouldn't be too surprised as according to reports the sequel script is still in its early stages, and the project is in development. The creative team behind the sequel has not been officially announced, however, we can assume that if everything goes ahead Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role, and Christopher McDonald will return to the sequel too.

At this time however, it is also unclear if the original director, Dennis Dugan, will be involved, but given the success of the first film, which grossed $41 million globally ($82 million today), and the long-standing relationship between Sandler and Dugan, there could be a potential for him to return also.

Until an official announcement is made by Adam Sandler's team or Netflix, we're mostly in the dark. However, as development progresses on the sequel, we're bound to uncover more details. So, keep your eyes peeled for further updates on this potential sequel!
