As of June 29, the milestone 20th season of Grey's Anatomy officially began streaming on Netflix. The 10-episode season, which was shortened as a result of the strikes, has helped continue the success of the veteran, long-running medical drama series, even with the decreased presence of series lead Ellen Pompeo as the show's namesake Meredith Grey.

If you have already binge-watched season 20 on Netflix, either as a catch up or a rewatch, rest assured that another season is coming! ABC announced the renewal of Grey's Anatomy season 21 in April 2024, ensuring that the series would be back for at least one more round (though there's no signs of it slowing down yet) and celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025.

Season 21 premieres this fall on ABC

According to Deadline, Grey's Anatomy will premiere on ABC in fall 2024, likely in September, and the season could consist of 18 episodes. However, both figures could potentially change like the show's cast, which has faced a revolving door of comings and goings over the years. Jake Borelli and Midori Francis will both be leaving the show, while Station 19 star Jason George joins the series.

Here's the confirmed season 21 cast so far:

  • Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey
  • Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey
  • James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber
  • Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt
  • Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd
  • Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson
  • Kim Raver as Teddy Altman
  • Chris Carmack as Atticus Lincoln
  • Anthony Hill as Winston Ndugu
  • Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffith
  • Harry Shum Jr. as Benson "Blue" Kwan"
  • Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin
  • Niko Terho as Lucas Adams
  • Jason George as Ben Warren

While Grey's Anatomy will remain at home on Thursday nights on ABC, the series will be moving out of its usual 9/8c timeslot for the first time in four years, since it shifted to an hour earlier. This fall, Grey's will move one hour later to the 10/9c timeslot behind 9-1-1 at 8/7c and Ryan Murphy's new series starring Joshua Jackson, Doctor Odyssey at 9/8c.

Season 21 will be on Netflix in 2025

Each year, the latest seasons of Grey's Anatomy are added to Netflix for streaming 30 days after their televised finales. For instance, season 20 ended its run on ABC on May 30 and the season was released on Netflix 30 days later on June 29. Even though season 21 doesn't have a finale date as of this writing, we know that it will arrive on Netflix one month after it ends, whenever that should be.

Traditionally, seasons of Grey's finish airing in May. If ABC sticks to that scheduling pattern, even with a reduced episode count of 18 rather than the normal 20-plus, season 21 should again be released on Netflix in June next year. That's an early prediction, but we do know for sure that season 21 will be available to watch on Netflix in 2025, and the series also streams in full on Hulu/Disney+ with Hulu.
