Grey's Anatomy season 20 sets Netflix release date (and it's very soon!)

Nearly 20 years into its run on ABC, Grey's Anatomy remains one of the most popular shows on television, and that's thanks in part to its enduring presence on Netflix. While the complete series is now also available to stream on Hulu, the series consistently performs well on Netflix as fans binge-watch the oldies and catch up with new seasons. The latest season is coming super soon!

As confirmed by Netflix on the show's page, Grey's Anatomy season 20 will begin streaming on Saturday, June 29. The latest seasons of the veteran medical drama are released on Netflix 30 days after their finales air on ABC. For instance, the season 20 finale aired on May 30, and 30 days after that date brings us to June 29. It's down to a science!

The most recent season of Grey's Anatomy will drop on Netflix at midnight PDT on June 29, which translates to 3 a.m. EDT. It's a bit late to stay up to watch season 20, but if you can't wait to catch up, you can burn the midnight oil to start the season. But you don't have to rush. There's still plenty of time to watch the shortened 20th season before season 21 debuts on ABC this fall.

Grey's Anatomy season 20 on Netflix in June

Because of the dual strikes that brought the entertainment industry to a halt last year, season 20 only features 10 episodes, which marks the shortest episode count of the series since it bowed as a midseason replacement in 2005 with its nine-episode first season. As of this writing in June 2024, ABC has not revealed how many episodes season 21 will contain, but it's sure to be much more than 10.

Likewise, the network has not announced a premiere date for the upcoming season, but it's been confirmed that the show will vacate the Thursday at 9 p.m. hour it has called home for much of its run. Grey's slides to the 10 p.m. hour, becoming the lead-out for Ryan Murphy's new series Doctor Odyssey, which in turns leads out of 9-1-1 at 8 p.m.

The landmark 20th season continued a revived hot streak for the series as it focused on the previous season's new batch of interns and focused less on Ellen Pompeo's titular Meredith Grey. As the show is today, it's much different from its humble beginnings, but it's still one of the most loved shows on air. With a reduced amount of episodes, season 20 will be the fasted binge-watch yet for fans when it arrives on June 29.
