Dan Levy proved his multi-talent when he created, wrote, and starred in comedy series Schitt's Creek with his father Eugene Levy. Now, the actor is showcasing his talent once again, marking his feature film directing debut in Good Grief on Netflix! The star has also written the script, and of course will be in front of the camera as well. How exciting is that!?

He takes on the role of Marc Dreyfus in the movie, which debuts Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 on the streamer. Joining him onscreen are Ruth Negga, Himesh Patel, and more. Check out the cast list below:

  • Daniel Levy as Marc Dreyfus
  • Ruth Negga as Sophie
  • Himesh Patel as Thomas
  • Luke Evans as Oliver
  • Celia Imrie as Imelda
  • Arnaud Valois as Theo

Levy's character David was definitely a fan-favorite on Schitt's Creek, and I have no doubt that his new role in Good Grief will prove to be one as well. And actually this time around, we're seeing Levy in a new light. The tone of the movie and what his character are going through are much less comedic and take on a more bittersweet tone. And that's what I'm looking forward to seeing the most. An actor proves their talent when they can showcase many emotions. And that's exciting!

In this bittersweet story, Marc (Dan Levy) was fine "living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver," per the synopsis. When Oliver dies suddenly, Marc's "world shatters," and he decides to go on a soul-searching trip to Paris with his best friends Sophie and Thomas. When they get to the French city, Oliver and his friends will come to terms with "some hard truths they each needed to face."

Levy has become known in the industry, and I can't wait to see him shine in this new role! Have you heard of all the other talented actors joining him onscreen? If you haven't we've got your back! Read on below for all the details about the stars of the film!

Daniel Levy as Marc Dreyfus

Before his role as the sassy and hilarious David Rose, Levy actually first started out in the industry as a television host for MTV Canada. The Canadian star then moved into acting eventually, appearing as Robbie in Degrassi Goes Hollywood. Other than Schitt's Creek, his roles include Vic in the 2023 version of the Haunted Mansion movie, Mr. Molloy in Netflix's Sex Education, as well as guest starring on an episode of Modern Family and The Idol, respectively.

Ruth Negga as Sophie

Negga is an Irish and Ethiopian actress who first started gaining recognition for her role as Raina in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Though she really made her breakthrough as Tulip O'Hare in the AMC supernatural series, Preacher. The actress also does theater work, one play under her belt being Lady Macbeth in the Shakespeare work.

Himesh Patel as Thomas

Those of you from the U.K. probably know a little show called EastEnders on the BBC. Well, Patel starred in the soap opera as Tamwar Masood. He was only 16 years old at the time! Since then, the British and Indian actor started to build an impressive résumé including roles in Christopher Nolan's Tenet, as well as Netflix's Don't Look Up and Enola Holmes 2. On the TV side, he played Emery Staines in The Luminaries and Jeevan Chaudhary in Station Eleven.

Luke Evans as Oliver

Welsh actor Luke Evans has definitely kept himself busy following his breakout role Apollo in the 2010 movie Clash of the Titans. Since then, the actor has taken on iconic roles like Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit movies, the titular character in 2014 film Dracula, Gaston in the Beauty and the Beast live-action, and even the Coachman in the Disney Pinnochio live-action movie. Most recently, you can see him as Bambi in Echo 3 on Apple TV+.

Celia Imrie as Imelda

An iconic actress in the Good Grief cast list is Celia Imrie. The Brit started out her career in the '70s with the movie Assassin. Over the years, you may have seen the actress and author in Nanny McPhee, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Love Again, Legends of Tomorrow, and Netflix's The Diplomat.

Arnaud Valois as Theo

Based on the trailer of Good Grief, it seems like Valois' character Theo is going to be Marc's new love interest! The French actor's film credits include, well, French movies. But he's expanding his portfolio with the Netflix film. He's known for French films like The Girl on the Train, BPM (Beats per Minute), and Spring Blossom.

Other than the main actors set to star, you can also expect to see David Bradley as Duncan, Jamael Westman, with cameos from Kaitlyn Dever and The Crown's Emma Corrin. Good Grief drops Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 on Netflix.
