You know the drill: You feel the slightest chill and crispness in the air, you catch your first whiff of anything pumpkin spiced, you feel the crunch of a leaf underneath your feet, and it's time to bundle under your softest blanket and start Gilmore Girls from the beginning.
No one holds annual rituals more closely than those whose favorite season is fall, and it's so valid. The second the calendar turns to sweater weather, there's no time to waste to break out the seasonal candles and plan a movie marathon or watch your favorite fall show.
Since fall has finally arrived, our watch lists will start to become crowded with the influx of new series premieres. But what are the seasonal staples that will make us feel like fall? These are the best shows to watch on Netflix this fall for the optimal autumnal experience, beginning below with the fall show!
Gilmore Girls
Rule #1: Never trust a list of must-watch shows to watch in the fall if it doesn't include Gilmore Girls. Lorelai and Rory have became to fall what Mariah Carey is to Christmas. The holiday season hasn't truly begun unless you've listened to "All I Want for Christmas Is You," and the fall season hasn't started unless you've started rewatching Gilmore Girls for the time.
Of course, the series doesn't just take place during the fall season, but it's the Stars Hollow state of mind. The coats, the coffee, the annual small town traditions, the colorful leaves in the opening credits — it's all added up to Gilmore Girls being the most fall show to ever fall show, even when Lorelai loves snow. It's the perfect show to put on, cozy up, and snack on some treats.
Wednesday
It's not the fall season without at least one marathon of a spooky show. We all have our favorite movies to watch annually in October, whether it's horror movies or Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown, but don't forget you can binge-watch a show on movie night, too! Netflix has plenty of spooky shows, including The Haunting series and Supernatural, but Wednesday is a must, too!
Since it's been almost two years at this point since Wednesday first premiered in November 2022, it's about time to give the eight-episode first season a rewatch if you haven't yet. The second season will premiere sometime in 2025, but it's never too soon to start preparing for the new episodes, especially since it's the right season for a good chill and thrill.
Nobody Wants This
The current No. 1 show on Netflix as of Sept. 30, the new Netflix original romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This has the inherently cozy vibe that makes it perfect to watch in the fall. Not only is it the best new comedy series of 2024, but it's the new contender to land in the rotation of everyone's annual fall rewatch lineup.
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody star in the rom-com series as Joanne and Noah, a mismatched pair who have an instant connection when they first meet. But as a rabbi, Noah's faith poses certain complications in their relationship that lead Joanne to make a decision. It's an easily digestible watch that makes you laugh and think and feel very soft and squishy.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Obviously, everyone should watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine no matter the time of the year. It's one of the hands-down funniest ensemble workplace sitcoms in recent memory. But there's one reason the beloved comedy has made it onto this list: the iconic Halloween heist episodes! Friends has Thanksgiving, The Office has Christmas, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine has Halloween. The first four seasons of eight total are currently streaming on Netflix for a Halloween episode marathon!
Sweet Magnolias
Need more of those cozy small town feels? How about heading to a town that's literally called Serenity? Netflix's hit romantic drama series Sweet Magnolias takes place in a close-knit community and centers on three of the warmest characters you will ever meet on the small screen. Since we're still waiting for season 4 to be released sometime in 2025, there's no time like the present for fans to dive back into the series from the beginning this fall. Trade the margs for mulled wine to make it even more fall!
