Making good on its intention to acquire more popular shows from other studios, Netflix will add another fan-favorite series in February 2024. The classic USA Network comedy-drama procedural Monk joins the streaming service's ranks on Monday, Feb. 5.
All eight seasons, which are comprised of 125 total episodes, will be available to stream on Netflix. The series has also been available to stream on the NBCUniversal-owned streaming service Peacock. Last year, a continuation movie called Mr. Monk's Last Case was also released on Peacock, but the follow-up movie won't be making its way to Netflix.
Monk first premiered on the USA Network in July 2002 and quickly became one of the highest-rated shows in cable history. It's success certainly helped influence the "blue sky" programming of the cable network and paved the way for such hit shows was Psych, Royal Pains, White Collar, Burn Notice, and so many others we still love to this day.
When Monk arrives in February, it will join Netflix's growing line-up of licensed content, which picked up steam after last year's massive showing by fellow USA veteran Suits on the streamer. Netflix also recently grabbed USA's medical dramedy Royal Pains as well as the cabler's crime procedural White Collar, which make its way to Netflix in April. Fingers crossed for even more USA shows!
What to know about Monk
For those who didn't watch Monk the first time around and might be interested in giving it a shot when it hits Netflix, Tony Shalhoub headlines the series as Adrian Monk, a private detective battling obsessive-compulsive disorder and various phobias that come to light during investigations. The series begins as Monk battles depression after his wife's death, leaving his house after three years to go back to work. It's not easy, but he's determined to find his wife's killer.
Beyond Shalhoub in the starring role, the series also stars:
- Bitty Schram as Sharona Fleming (seasons 1-3)
- Jason Gray-Stanford as Lieutenant Randy Disher
- Ted Levine as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer
- Traylor Howard as Natalie Teeger (seasons 3-8)
As previously mentioned, the series contains eight seasons and 125 episodes. That's a decent sized binge-watch that will keep you busy for a few weeks or months, depending on how quickly you're able to watch the series. Each season contains 16 episodes, except for the first season, which has 13 episodes. At any rate, if you're looking for a show that's entertaining, light-hearted, and will keep you busy for much longer than a 10-episode season, here's your pick!
All eight seasons of Monk begin streaming on Netflix on Monday, Feb. 5.
