We haven't seen the last of Emily Cooper's adventures in Rome... or Paris. Just three days after the release of Emily in Paris season 4 part 2, Lily Collins assisted Netflix in announcing the official renewal of Emily in Paris season 5. Collins appeared on Good Morning America and had the honor of sharing the exciting news with fans for the first time.
Along with the renewal news coming from the show's Emily herself, Netflix also shared a video clip of Collins taking a sip of tea from a cup with a "5" on the bottom. The renewal announcement video also features an obvious but ever so slight tease about what to expect from season 5. As Collins says in the video, "There's no place like Rome."
While Netflix hasn't revealed the episode count for season 5 as of this writing, based on the hit series' past four seasons, it's a safe bet that the upcoming season will also have 10 episodes. As fans know, season 4 was split into two parts, with five-episode halves dropping in the span of a month. Hopefully, we won't have to worry about a split season this time around.
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4.
In an interview with Netflix's Tudum in conjunction with the season 5 renewal, both Collins and series creator Darren Star confirmed that we will be picking back up with Emily in Rome. The season 4 finale found Emily receiving an exciting job opportunity to open and run Agence Grateau's new office in Rome. She'll be moving to Rome for a while, but Star insists Emily's not leaving Paris.
Star told Tudum that Emily will "have a presence" in Rome as she tackles her new career task (and continues to date Marcello), and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after the drop of season 4 part 2, the creator assured fans that Emily won't be leaving Paris for good. Doesn't this make you wonder how long Emily will be in Rome? We can't wait to find out what happens next!
But what we do know about season 5 is that Emily and Gabriel will still be broken up — at least when the new season begins. Even though Gabriel came to his senses and realized he shouldn't have given her up, Emily has already moved on with Marcello. Collins appears to be on board with Emily exploring her feelings for Marcello, considering how happy he's making her.
Here's what Collins told Tudum about the state of Emily's personal life going into season 5:
"Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time. Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice."Lily Collins
Another aspect of Emily in Paris season 5 that fans are probably wondering about is whether season 5 will be the final season. As of the renewal, Netflix has not indicated that season 5 is the final season. Unless the streamer later specifies ahead of the release, we shouldn't make any assumptions. Emily still has plenty of personal and professional makes to make before riding off into the sunset.
Now that Emily in Paris season 5 is officially a-go, Star and the writers will likely get to work on crafting season 5's storylines and writing the scripts. Fingers crossed, filming will begin early next year for a release sometime in mid to late- 2025. Thankfully, we won't be waiting almost two years for new episodes, but we still have to be patient to see what's in store for Emily in season 5.
