Netflix has obtained the streaming rights to yet another BET+ original series, and this time, it's the thriller Average Joe starring Deon Cole. The complete 10-episode first season is reportedly slated to land on Netflix on Aug. 15, 2024. A second season is currently in the works and will air on BET+ at a later date. It's unknown if the second season will ever come to Netflix, though.
Average Joe is a television series created by Robb Cullen. Cullen is known for previously writing for the TV shows Las Vegas, Back in the Game and Mr. Robinson. He also co-wrote the screenplay for the crime comedy film Once Upon a Time in Venice, which stars Bruce Willis.
Inspired by Cullen's real life, Average Joe stars Emmy nominee Deon Cole as Joe Washington, a plumber who finds himself in deep trouble with the Russian mafia after learning that his recently deceased father stole a large sum of money from them just before he died. Cole is best known for his previous role as Charlie Telphy in the comedy sitcom Black-ish. He also starred as Demetrius in Netflix's You People and as Alfonso Harris in the musical period drama The Color Purple.
Joining him in the cast are Tammy Townsend, Malcolm Barrett, Cynthia McWilliams, Michael Trucco, Ashley Olivia Fisher, Kathrine Barnes, Ashani Roberts, and Pasha D. Lychnikoff.
