Brooklyn Nine-Nine really is one of the funniest shows out there, and also has one of the best ensemble casts! That's why we're so happy that Netflix is bringing the first four seasons of the show (out of eight) to us on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024. The workplace comedy is a popular one, and you might want to watch it with your kids. Is that ok?

Well, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is rated TV-14, so you'll want to be mindful of a few things. This age rating means parents are strongly cautioned to be present, and certain material might not be appropriate for those who are under 14 years old.

Overall, the series is actually great in terms of representation of different people, backgrounds, an LGBTQ lead, addressing societal issues, and portraying healthy relationships. Most of the time it's very lighthearted and even the more mature themes are not too graphic.

However, it is a show about law enforcement and adults. So it does still feature mature themes. For example, there's talk of drugs, weapons, and violence due to the nature of the workplace setting. They are at a precinct after all. Sometimes, but not often, the drugs are shown. And of course, there's going to be weapons visible and fired off.

However overall, the violence on B99 isn't very graphic. It's more there for the comedy element of the story. You'll also want to be mindful of references to sex and suggestive jokes. Especially with the character of Michael Hitchcock. Throughout the series, Jake Peralta also will make a "Title of Your Sex Tape" joke, which becomes a running quip with his character.

There aren't any graphic sex scenes, but you will see two characters in bed together. It's obvious what they just did. An example is the fact that two characters hook up after getting drunk, and this was rebound sex to help one character get over a crush on someone else. Though it doesn't happen until season 6 and only the first four seasons are coming to Netflix, two characters are on their honeymoon and try out role play. And in the first two episodes of season 5, an inmate is a cannibal.

There's also some language used you might not be comfortable with your kids seeing. It's nothing too explicit, being words like "hell" or "a**." Finally, as mentioned above, there is drinking portrayed. The group at the Nine-Nine almost always goes to Shaw's Bar to unwind or celebrate a victory. So you'll also see the characters drinking alcohol.

My recommendation overall, is that I think those who are 14 and older would be ok watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Unfortunately in this day and age, they're probably exposed to these elements from friends, social media, and other movies and shows. However if you have a younger teen, be sure to either watch with them or check out the episodes first to see your comfort level. Even so, I definitely recommend B99. It features other important subjects, and there's lessons to be learned.
