Dearest gentle readers, hold on to your corsets and cravats because the Bridgerton season 3 part 2 trailer is officially here. And it certainly delivered! This show is nothing short of dramatic, and if you thought part 1 of Penelope and Colin's story was just that, I guess we have another thing coming in the final four episodes of the season. Because based on the video, we're in for even some more drama, and I'm definitely here for it! Check out the trailer below:

I'll be honest with you all. I haven't been the biggest fan of Bridgerton season 3 part 1. It felt rushed, the Penelope and Colin lessons are nonexistent, and it was a bit misleading with what we got vs what was being promoted. Even Lord Debling really wasn't a major suitor the way I thought he was going to be. He definitely helped Colin realize his feelings for Penelope and got the jealous streak going, but it wasn't played out in an interesting way since Lord Debling was just looking for a practical match. There was no real internal emotional struggle for Penelope when it came time to choose between Colin and Lord Debling. And that's a disappointment, even if we all know who she would have picked if that happened.

Now with Bridgerton season 3 episodes 5-8, this is where the meat of the story and the truly interesting part of it seems to begin! I was really hoping Colin and Penelope falling in love would be more interesting to watch, but you know what we're going to move on and just stay excited for what's to come. Because from that 2 minutes and 18 seconds, I can tell Part 2 is really going to be the talk of the season!

Penelope and Colin's romance heats up

So what drama is there to get excited about? Let's start off with Penelope and Colin's romance heating up. I mean, could anything top that carriage scene at the end of episode 4? I initially didn't think so, but I could be wrong. The trailer of course isn't giving much away, but I see some more, ahem, exploring, in their future. They're definitely not shy about kissing at least that's for sure. They've already done quite a bit in that carriage, and I don't think they'll be able to keep their hands off each other now that the couple is engaged.

Speaking of, the engagement news is shared with the ton, and the family too. And they all seem delighted! I'm sure with how quickly it's happened they're all surprised (excpet Violet perhaps), but the Bridgertons have always liked Penelope. Though there's one member of the family who isn't quite so pleased, and I definitely can't blame her. More on that below, but first I do want to point out a couple of parts of the trailer that piqued my interest.

Penelope: "Colin, I can take care of myself." Colin: "Then what good am I to you?"

This part really caught my attention, and such a quick and small statement has such a big meaning. It seems Penelope will be struggling a bit with actually having the independence with her secret Lady Whistledown alter ego even in the annoying Featherington household. And she's worked hard to do something other than just be a wife - though she has also longed to get married. It looks like she's going to have to deal with that while also, as she said, taking care of herself. But Colin responds, "then what good am I to you?"

This reveals Colin's own personal struggle with his self-confidence. He's always had the support of Penelope, and gotten all the praise from her. But he's trying to find that confidence within himself. With Penelope taking that away, as she states she can take care of herself, this is Colin's own self-confidence struggle he's going to have to deal with. Penelope isn't a damsel in distress as he thinks she is, and he's going to have to realize that's not all he brings to their relationship. It's not just protection as he sees it. The two each bring so much more. This is the character development I've been waiting for.

Eloise is not having it in the Bridgerton season 3 part 2 trailer

In the trailer, there's a very big emphasis on Eloise putting pressure on Penelope to tell Colin the truth about her Lady Whistledown identity. Look, Penelope is in a very tough position and I can empathize with her. The man she's been yearning for for all these years is finally reciprocating her feelings. But at the same time, she hasn't been kind to him or his family with her scandal sheets. And this secret is not an easy one to share with Colin because of that.

But Eloise is 100% in the right here. She's been willing to keep Penelope's secret, even though her former friend has hurt her and her family very much as Lady Whistledown. But now that her brother is in the middle of it all, she's trying to protect him. Like any other sibling would. I honestly would not want to see Penelope and Colin getting married with this secret looming. It would not be a good look. So I do hope that she tells him. Though knowing Bridgerton, it's probably going to come out in a way Penelope doesn't want it to, even though she's had multiple opportunities to tell him the truth herself.

The dilemma of deciding if/when to tell Colin about she herself being Lady Whistledown, the back and forth that is evident to be happening between Eloise and Penelope, and just the difficulty of keeping the Lady Whistledown situation a secret from the ton is giving all sorts of drama that's sure to make a great season 3 part 2! Plus of course the big question of whether Colin and Penelope do indeed get married. Even though she's made mistakes and is keeping this huge secret from him, I do still want to see them together. What about you?

Other takeaways

In the trailer, Julie Andrews' Lady Whistledown voiceover states "Gossip as I might, this author cannot tolerate a lie." Hmm. That's not really true, is it, Penelope? I kind of laughed at this statement when I first heard it. There's lots to come, and she's going to have to face the consequences of her decisions. Otherwise this secret is really going to get out of hand and blow up in Penelope's face. And though she's made mistakes, she doesn't deserve all that cruelty from the ton. Or does she? I don't know!

As you may have noticed, we have some new breathtakingly beautiful promotional images to go along with the new trailer that feature Colin, Penelope, and Eloise. Though there's a few more that give us glimpses into some of the other characters and stories we've been following in this first half of season 3. It looks like Francesca and Lord Stirling are continuing to get close, which might not make Queen Charlotte happy as she's already chosen a suitor for her new diamond, not diamond, of the season. We'll see where this goes next!

Plus, Cressida Cowper has played a bigger role this time around. While her family life isn't great at all with her very unsupportive parents, can she be trusted? Eloise has already been none too careful in what she's shared with Cressida. And while she didn't reveal the secret of Penelope and Colin's lessons, I don't think she's really reformed. She's still sus to me. Elsewhere there's whatever is going on between Lady Danbury and her brother Marcus Anderson, as well as Benedict's seemingly new romance with Lady Tilley. Where is that headed? We'll find out soon enough!
