Bridgerton's new showrunner knows who will lead season 4 (and we have some guesses)
Bridgerton is the talk of the ton, or should we say the town at the moment, with its highly anticipated third season set to premiere on Netflix soon. With the third season's release quickly approaching, the cast and crew are now out and about doing press, and we're learning new details about not only the third season but the upcoming fourth season as well.
Recently, we learned that we'll finally be getting queer representation in the period drama with a queer love story possibly being introduced in the third season. This juicy information came straight from Bridgerton season 3 showrunner Jess Brownell in a recent interview. She told PRIDE that seeing more "queer joy" on screens was a priority for her when she took over as showrunner for season 3. This was very good news for some fans (like me) who had been waiting for the show to explore queer stories. But the good news doesn't stop there!
At the Australian premiere for Bridgerton season 3, Brownell spoke with Refinery29 Australia and shared some information about the upcoming Bridgerton season 4. When asked about which Bridgerton character will lead the fourth season, Brownell stated that she already knows who it'll be. She also mentioned that the scripts for season 4 are currently being written.
"I can tell you that I know who it's gonna be. We are in the middle of writing it right now."
- Jess Brownell
Of course, we weren't expecting Brownell to come right out and say the character's name, but now we can't help but speculate on who it is. Obviously, Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) leading the fourth season would make the most sense since he was skipped over for season 3. Benedict has a pretty significant fanbase, and they've been patiently waiting for his love story to be told. It would also make sense for his story to be in the spotlight in Bridgerton season 4 because he's one of the last older Bridgerton siblings.
However, the show's creative team could also choose to go the Eloise (Claudia Jessie) or Francesca (Hannah Dodd) route and tell one of their love stories instead in the fourth season. Eloise is another fan-favorite character and we've seen plenty of her throughout the period drama already. It would make sense if her story came up next, especially since we'll be seeing a lot of her in the third season because of her rift with Penelope. It would be an easy transition for her to move into the leading role for season 4. She's also at the age to enter the marriage market.
When it comes to Francesca, we didn't see much of her in seasons 1 and 2, but we'll be seeing more of her in season 3. And like Eloise, she's also at the age where she's eligible for marriage. That being said, she could also potentially lead the fourth season.
We can't see one of the younger Bridgerton siblings, Gregory or Hyacinth, leading Bridgerton season 4. They're still too young, and we've barely gotten to know them over the seasons. Their love stories will likely be told in later seasons.
Now, if we were asked about who we personally would like to see be the focus of season 4, it's between Eloise and Benedict. We would be okay with either one, and honestly, we think it's really one of them. I guess we'll just have to wait to find out, though. Once it's revealed who will lead Bridgerton season 4, you'll be the first to know.
