Bridgerton is one of those shows you can’t help but watch over and over again. It has everything you could ever want in a period drama: steamy romance, moments of high drama, elegant costumes, and colorful characters. But while some characters receive all the attention in the Netflix series, others don’t get enough shine.

Obviously, you have your main characters and supporting characters each season. For example, Daphne and Simon are the main characters in season 1, and Anthony and Kate take over as main characters in season 2. Next, we have Colin and Penelope receiving the spotlight in Bridgerton season 3.

But just because those characters are the main focus in those seasons doesn’t mean the supporting characters aren’t as interesting. I’d even argue that some supporting characters are more interesting than the lead characters. There, I said it. It’s time for there to be a discussion about characters in the period drama that aren’t valued highly enough, and I’m ready to start it.

I love Daphne and Simon, but let’s be honest, they’re in no way underrated. I’d say the most underrated character, unfortunately, goes to my girl, Eloise Bridgerton.

Eloise Bridgerton

Eloise is one of the best characters in the show, and this is a hill I’m willing to die on. She has that “tell you what it is” type of personality that you just have to respect. When she has an opinion about something, she doesn’t try to sugarcoat it. She’s caring, intelligent, and truly wants the best for those she loves. Her blunt personality might rub some people the wrong way, but she’s never being callous. Her intentions are pure most of the time, but people seem to overlook her kindness.

Although Eloise received more screen time in the second season than the first, she deserved way more. That’s why we can’t wait to see her get the spotlight when her season comes out on Netflix. Whenever that is…

Penelope Featherington

Penelope Featherington isn’t part of the Bridgerton family, so I can sort of understand why she doesn’t get much screen time. But she definitely deserves to be brought up in fan conversations about some of the best Bridgerton characters. Like her best friend Eloise, she has a heart of gold. Yes, she’s the gossipmonger in the ton, but most of her gossip ends up being true anyway. She might not always make the best decisions, but nobody’s perfect, especially anybody in the ton.

Penelope comes from a family that doesn’t really understand her, and she doesn’t make much of a fuss when things don’t go her way. But she deserves to be loved, and it’s about time somebody sees that. Maybe it’ll be Colin, or perhaps it’ll be someone else. What we do know is that her time is coming, and it’s coming soon. We can’t wait to see Penelope take center stage in the upcoming third season. She definitely deserves it!

Edwina Sharma

I know Bridgerton season 2 was about Anthony and Kate’s love story, but why did the sweet and caring Edwina have to be caught in the middle of their drama? Then, to make matters worse, she doesn’t end up with anyone at the end of the season. Edwina deserved better, and it’s unfair that we won’t get to see her story continue in the third season.

All Edwina wanted was to find her one true love. She thought she had this with Anthony, but Anthony had been feeling her older sister more the entire time. Then, he goes behind her back and messes around with Kate. I’m sorry, but that was so shady and distasteful. Yes, seeing Anthony and Kate end up together was heartwarming to watch, but Edwina didn’t deserve to get hurt in the process. She truly is a great character, and it’s time that more people see this.

We’ll keep you constantly updated on all things Bridgerton, so make sure to stay tuned to Netflix Life!
