The swashbuckling historical adventure series Black Sails will make its way to Netflix in April 2024 after reports of the show dropping on the streamer in January. Better late than never!

Netflix announced along with its complete list of new release movies and shows coming in April that all four seasons of the Starz drama series Black Sails would at long last drop on Wednesday, April 17. It's one of the latest acquired fan-favorite series the streamer has nabbed the rights to, along with the latest and upcoming titles like The Resident, Sex and the City, The Conners, and many others.

Back in January 2014, Black Sails made its premiere on Starz, beginning with its eight-episode first season. The show's next three seasons premiered each January thereafter with 10-episode seasons. Ahead of the final season's premiere in January 2017, Starz announced that season 4 would be the last in July 2016. But now fans new and old can watch every episode in celebration of the show's 10th anniversary!

Black Sails release date and time on Netflix

As mentioned above all four seasons of Black Sails will begin streaming on Netflix on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Like all Netflix new releases, the series will release at 12 a.m. PDT on the West Coast of the United States, while those on the East Coast will have to burn the midnight oil to watch the show when it drops at 3 a.m. EDT.

However, if you can't wait until April 17 and you don't have access to Starz or its streaming platform, you can watch the first episode of the first season for free on YouTube. Keep in mind, because of the mature nature of the subject matter — which includes violence, graphic nudity, and heightened language — the series premiere is age restricted on YouTube.

In total, the series contains 38 total episodes, making for a relatively quick binge-watch compared to some of the other licensed series hitting Netflix these days. Since ending in 2017, the critically acclaimed series hasn't had any indication of a follow-up series or sequel of some sort. As it is, Black Sails was meant to be a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island. Being so, there's always a chance to return to this universe. You never know with TV these days!

If you haven't watched the show yet and are wondering whether to tune in when it hits Netflix, you should definitely check it out if you loved Netflix titles like The Last Kingdom and Vikings: Valhalla. The series takes place in the 18th century on New Providence Island as Captain Flint and his crew members fight for survival of the island against various enemies. It's adventurous, action-packed, and everything you're looking for in an exciting binge.

Here's who's plays the heroes, villains, and pirates throughout all four seasons:

  • Toby Stephens as James McGraw/Captain Flint
  • Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie
  • Luke Arnold as "Long" John Silver
  • Jessica Parker Kennedy as Max
  • Tom Hopper as William "Billy Bones" Manderly
  • Zach McGowan as Charles Vane
  • Toby Schmitz as Jack Rackham
  • Clara Paget as Anne Bonny

  • Louise Barnes as Miranda Hamilton/Barlow
  • Rupert Penry-Jones as Lord Thomas Hamilton
  • Luke Roberts as Woodes Rogers
  • Ray Stevenson as Edward Teach
  • David Wilmot as Israel Hands

The Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper starred in all four seasons as his character William "Billy Bones" Manderly. Hopper will next be seen in the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy, which premieres in August 2024 on Netflix. There are plenty more familiar faces in the series, such as Toby Stephens, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Zach McGowan, and Ray Stevenson. Obviously, there's lots of reasons to watch, and it's sure to be a huge hit on Netflix in April.
