4 best adult animated series on Netflix to watch right now (and 2 to skip)

Who has the best adult animated series out of all the streamers? We might be biased over here at Netflix Life, but we'd say Netflix has its fair share of hits. However, it also has its misses too. But then again, that goes for every streaming platform. Netflix just has several adult animated shows that are easily rewatchable, and we're talking about rewatching AT LEAST once a year.

If you're a big fan of adult animation, you might be curious to know what's good to watch at the moment. Fortunately, we've watched a good amount of adult animated series on Netflix, so we're able to share with you a list of shows worth watching as well as skipping over. Some of these shows you might've already watched, but there's nothing wrong with a little rewatch sesh.

Now, without further ado, here are four adult animated shows on Netflix we recommend you check out and two you should pass on.

F Is for Family

WATCH! Created by well-known comedian Bill Burr and Emmy Award-winning writer Michael Price, F Is for Family is a raunchy yet heartwarming and nostalgic series. Set in the '70s in the fictional town of Rustvale, Pennsylvania, the show follows the dysfunctional Murphy family as they navigate life's ups and downs together. Burr voices the main character, Frank Murphy. Also joining him in the voice cast are actors Laura Dern, Justin Long, Haley Reinhart, Debi Derryberry, Sam Rockwell, and many others.

BoJack Horseman

Seasons: 6

WATCH! If you like adult animated shows with underlying dark humor, BoJack Horseman is the show for you. It's a well-written series that tackles many serious topics in a sincere way. However, it's important to mention that you'll experience an array of emotions while watching this show, so be prepared.

Created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Bojack Horseman centers around a self-loathing anthropomorphic horse who is haunted by his past and suffers from depression and addiction. BoJack Horseman was once a popular actor starring in a beloved '90s sitcom called Horsin' Around. Flash forward many years later, and he's now a washed-up star in his 50s trying to make a comeback to the entertainment world with a tell-all autobiography written by a ghostwriter.

Emmy-nominated actor Will Arnett voices the main character, BoJack Horseman. In addition, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul voice characters in the series as well.

Big Mouth

Seasons: 7

SKIP! I absolutely can't stand this show and am baffled by how it keeps getting renewed. It's supposed to be about the struggles of puberty, and I get that, but it relies too heavily on crude humor which makes it less humorous. I'm okay with vulgar jokes from time to time, but that's all Big Mouth is. Thankfully, this show will be ending soon with its upcoming eighth season. Good riddance!

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

WATCH! Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is one of the most aesthetically pleasing adult animated series I've ever watched, and it was also very entertaining. Typically, adaptations of other pieces of work don't end up turning out well, but that wasn't the case for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Although the show serves as an alternate retelling of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, which angered some fans, I was okay with the change.

The story follows 23 year old bass player Scott Pilgrim, who after meeting the girl of his dreams, finds out that he has to fight all seven of her evil exes to date her. The majority of the cast from the live-action movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World came back to voice their characters in the animation such as Michael Cera voicing Scott Pilgrim and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers.

Tuca & Bertie

Seasons: 3 but only the first season is on Netflix

WATCH! Another raunchy adult animated show worth checking out is Tuca & Bertie. Sadly, only the first season is available to stream on Netflix. You'll have to make your way to Max to watch the other two seasons.

It's a colorful series that's realistic, funny, and very easy to watch. While it does cover serious topics at times, it's a light-hearted show overall. It follows the lives of two 30-year-old anthropomorphic female birds living in the same apartment building while also exploring their friendship.

Stand-up comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish voices one of the bird besties, Tuca, while Beef's Ali Wong voices the other bird bestie, Bertie. Steven Yeun, Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, and many others also voice characters in the series.

Good Times

Seasons: 1

SKIP! I don't know if you read any of the reviews on this new adult animated series, but they weren't lying. Good Times is full of harmful stereotypes about African Americans and offensive jokes. It's not funny at all and I'm still in shock that Netflix let this see the light of day. It's supposed to be an animated reimagining of the beloved '70s Black sitcom of the same name, but all it did was taint the original show's legacy. It's not often that I wish on a show's downfall, but this show does not deserve a second season.
