Edge of Tomorrow, The Rundown, and the best action movies on Netflix in September 2024

We're midway through September, and Netflix has been releasing tons of great content on its platform. I don't know if you've looked at the streamer's top 10 movie list lately, but there are currently three action movies ranking on the list that are definitely a must-watch. They were all released on Netflix this month. And what's even better is that there will be a couple more action flicks the streamer will be releasing soon.

Rebel Ridge (2024)

As of Sept. 11, Rebel Ridge is sitting at the No. 1 spot on Netflix's top 10 movie list, meaning tons of people are watching the new action-thriller. It was released on the streaming platform on Sept. 6, and it didn't take long at all for it to rise up the top 10 list. Jeremy Saulnier wrote, produced, directed, and edited the film about a former Marine who finds himself confronting a crooked police force as he races to post bail for his cousin who was wrongly imprisoned.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Cast: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson

Edge of Tomorrow is another one of Netflix's top movies at the moment, with it currently sitting at the No. 2 spot on the top 10 movie list. It's a sci-fi action film based on the Japanese sci-fi light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. It stars Tom Cruise as Major William Cage, a public relations officer with limited combat experience who finds himself in a time loop while on a combat mission against an alien race that has invaded the Earth.

The Rundown (2003)

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Christopher Walken, Rosario Dawson, Ewen Bremner

The Rundown is the other action movie currently ranking on the top 10 movie list on Netflix. It's an action-comedy starring Dwayne Johnson as a bounty hunter who goes on one last mission before retirement. That mission turns out to be dangerous as he's tasked with having to fetch his employer's son from the Amazon rainforest and bring him back home.

Uglies (2024)

Cast: Joey King, Keith Powers, Chase Stokes, Brianne Tju, and Laverne Cox

Uglies is a sci-fi action movie set to be released on Netflix on Sept. 13, 2024. Based on the 2005 dystopian novel of the same name by Scott Westerfeld, the story centers around a teen girl named Tally Youngblood, who discovers that her friend is missing while awaiting mandatory cosmetic surgery. But along her journey to find her friend, Tally learns more about the downsides of her society and begins to question if she actually wants to go through with the transformation.

Officer Black Belt (2024)

Cast: Kim Woo-bin and Kim Sung-kyun

Officer Black Belt is an upcoming South Korean action comedy flick slated to drop on Netflix on Sept. 13, 2024. It was written and directed by Jason Kim, who is best known for the Netflix action series Bloodhounds. The film revolves around Lee Jung-do, a gifted martial artist who begins working as a contract martial arts officer after a probation officer notices his talent for the job. His duties as a martial arts officer are to help fight and prevent crime.
