Touchdown! Alan Ritchson sitcom Blue Mountain State blitzing onto Netflix (when to watch)
By Reed Gaudens
Since beginning his career as a model and an American Idol hopeful, Alan Ritchson has made quite the name for himself as an actor. He's appeared in movies like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Fast X, and most recently, he headlines the Amazon Prime Video action series Reacher. But one of his most popular roles is in a cult favorite sitcom.
Back in 2010, Ritchson starred in the Spike (remember Spike?!) original series Blue Mountain State, a comedy series about a fictional college university and the wild antics its football team got up to on and off the field. Ritchson starred as the excitable linebacker Thad, who often gave quarterback Alex Moran (Darin Brooks) a run for his money.
While Blue Mountain State has been available to stream on Netflix in the past, the show returns to the streaming service in May 2024 for what's likely to be another resurgence in popularity. The college comedy drops at the top of the month, but what time exactly can fans starting tuning into the throwback favorite? We're sharing everything you need to know below!
Blue Mountain State release date on Netflix
All three seasons of Blue Mountain State and its wrap-up movie Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland begin streaming on Netflix on Wednesday, May 1. Keeping in line with most Netflix new releases, the cult comedy series and movie will drop at midnight PT, which translates to 3 a.m. ET. While that's a bit late to stay up to watch, if it's your favorite show, it's a small price to pay!
If you don't have access to Netflix, don't worry. There are still five other ways to watch the show for free online. As of this writing on April 28, 2024, Blue Mountain State seasons 1-3 are currently available to stream on Amazon Freevee, The CW's website, Plex, The Roku Channel, and Tubi. See, I told you there were options! The only downside? These options have ads.
Perhaps if Blue Mountain State finds enough success on Netflix, the proposed sequel series that was announced to be in development back in February 2024 would finally find its home. Deadline states that Netflix is one of the two places Lionsgate is looking to place the series, with Amazon being the other option. Ritchson, Brooks, and Chris Romano are expected to reprise their roles in the potential series.
Clearly, there's a lot on the line with Blue Mountain State's triumphant return to Netflix. Don't miss your chance to relive all of the hilarious moments of debauchery, and if you haven't ever watched the series but are a fan of Alan Ritchson, make sure to add it to your watch list when all three seasons and the followup movie touch down on Netflix beginning on May 1.
