The second season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's hit Monster anthology series is coming to Netflix very soon. We're talking about Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and it's set to be released on the streaming platform on Sept. 19.
The first season, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, focused on the life and crimes of one of America’s most infamous serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer. Due to the show's major success, Netflix decided to renew it for two additional seasons in November 2022. Season 2 will revolve around the high-profile murder case of real-life brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise "Kitty" Menéndez, in 1996.
Nicholas Chavez will play Lyle Menéndez in the series, while Cooper Koch will portray Erik Menéndez. They're joined in the main cast by Javier Bardem, Chloë Sevigny, Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Dallas Roberts, and Leslie Grossman.
Now, we've just learned of a rumor going around about the upcoming Monster season 3. According to Reel Chicago, the third season will be about notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Like Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers, Gacy was one of the most infamous criminals in U.S. history. Not only was he a serial killer, but also a sex offender. He became known as the "Killer Clown" because he often performed at children's parties and charitable events dressed as a clown.
Between 1972 and 1978, Gacy murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men. He committed all of his murders in his Chicago home. On March 13, 1980, Gacy was sentenced to death, and on May 10, 1994, he was executed by lethal injection.
According to Reel Chicago, filming for the third season will take place in Chicago for 20 days from late January to early February 2025. However, keep in mind that neither Netflix nor the show's creative team have confirmed this rumor. So, for now, that's all it is.
Once Netflix reveals which monstrous figure the third season will be about, we'll let you know right away. But for now, you'll just have to get ready to watch Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which is slated to come to Netflix on Sept. 19.
