A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is coming to Netflix this week! The Netflix original series is based on the book of the same name by Holly Jackson. It’s the first book of Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series.
Emma Myers, who stars opposite Jenna Ortega in Netflix’s Wednesday, stars in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder as Pippa Fitz-Amobi, a teenager who takes a closer look at a murder that rocked a small town five years earlier.
The series actually premiered on BBC iPlayer in the UK on July 1, 2024, but it’s getting an international release on Netflix soon. We shared everything you need to know heading into a series that’s sure to be one of the most popular shows of the summer on Netflix.

Trailer
We shared the official synopsis for A Good Girls Guide to Murder, via Netflix:
"Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh. Case closed. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it. But smart and single minded Pip Fitz-Amobi isn't so sure and she’s determined to prove it. And if Sal Singh isn’t a murderer and the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?"
Poppy Cogan created the series for BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
In the series, Myers is joined by Zain Iqbal, who plays Ravi Singh, the brother of alleged killer, Sal Singh. Asha Banks stars as Pip’s best friend, Cara.
Raiko Gohara, Jude Morgan-Collie, Yali Topol Margalith, Yasmin Al-Khudhairi, Henry Ashton, Carla Woodcock, Mathew Baynton, Gary Beadle, and Anna Maxwell Martin round out the rest of the cast, according to Netflix.
What to expect
I have read Holly Jackson’s novel that the series' first season is based on, so I won’t share too much—just a little snapshot of what to expect in the new series.
What you’re going to see is a teenager, too smart for her own good, in Pippa who desperately wants to find out what happened to Andie Bell, another teenager who is believed to have been killed by her boyfriend, Sal, five years earlier. Pippa has a personal connection the case, although she’s not close with Andie Bell. Through siblings of friends, Pippa did know Sal, and she doesn’t believe he killed Andie Bell.
That’s what happens in the book anyway! Based on what I’ve seen about the series, it seems like it will follow pretty closely to Jackson’s book.
There are many, many twists and turns in the book. I thought I had the mystery figured out, signed, sealed, and delivered, but I was wrong. You probably will be, too!
Based on the trailer, we’ll definitely see Pippa work closely with her partner in – not crime – mystery, Ravi, the younger brother. He obviously would like to clear his brother’s name, but will they find the person responsible? Are they sure that Sal didn’t kill Andie? Well, that’s what we’ll find out in the series.
It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens with this series and if the end of the season will set up a season 2. There are two more books in Jackson’s book series, including Good Girl, Bad Blood and As Good As Dead.
Also, I have to mention this one bit before we go! A Good Girl's Guide to Murder spoilers are all over online. You can find recaps and explainers for each episode and the end of the season. Be careful unless you want this mystery spoiled for you!
