Netflix offers an extensive catalog of titles in the horror genre. From teen scream to psychological and everything in between. Fans of horror would be remiss if they didn't delve into an often overlooked category: Netflix original horror.
Don't miss award-winning Netflix originals, including Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, and Stranger Things. Other fantastic choices include your choice of Mike Flanagan's horror series like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Whatever your favorite horror genre, Netflix has something for you. Below, we feature a sampling of some of the amazing horror movies created by the streamer.
Gerald's Game (2017)
First up is a Mike Flanagan gem based on the novel written by Stephen King. Gerald's Game is a psychological thriller directed by Flanagan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Howard. Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood portray a married couple who escape to an isolated lake house for a romantic getaway. When the husband experiences a fatal heart attack during a sex game, the wife, who is handcuffed to the headboard, must keep her wits to discover a way to escape, all while her inner demons torment her.
The Babysitter (2017)
Netflix did an outstanding job capturing the essence of a slasher in the black comedy horror The Babysitter. The story follows Cole (Judah Lewis), who stays up late one night only to discover that his hot babysitter, Bee (Samara Weaving), is part of a demonic cult. Bee and her fellow cultists begin to hunt Cole down with the intent of killing him before he reveals their secret. Thus begins a game of cat and mouse as Cole tries to fight for his life against the crazed teens.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
There's Someone Inside Your House is an adaptation of Stephanie Perkins' novel directed by Patrick Brice, known for Creep and Creep 2. Makani (Sydney Park) is a newly transferred student attending Osborne High School in a small Nebraska town. Upon her arrival, she finds that students are being gruesomely murdered by a serial killer who reveals their darkest secrets.
His House (2020)
Written and directed by Remi Weekes, His House is a horror thriller that centers around a refugee couple from war-torn South Sudan. The couple struggles to adjust to their new life in England as a sinister presence has also taken residence in their new home. The film has a 100% onRotten Tomatoes, "featuring genuine scares through every corridor."
The Ritual (2017)
Based on Adam Nevill's novel, The Ritual is a folk horror directed by David Bruckner (V/H/S) and written by Joe Barton (The Lazarus Project). Four long-time friends, whose connections have become strained over the years, embark on a hiking trip into the Swedish wilderness. Their journey takes an unexpected turn where they encounter some ancient evil from which they may never return.
