This year saw a handful of fan-favorite Netflix series come to a close, as we had to say goodbye to hits like Sex Education, Never Have I Ever, Firefly Lane, The Crown, and Manifest after awesome runs. And that's not even including the canceled shows in 2023 that didn't get to have proper endings such as Shadow and Bone, Lockwood & Co., and others. And despite 2024 not bringing back the big hitters such as Stranger Things or Wednesday (we'll be waiting until 2025, at least, for those!) next year is still looking promising. We'll be seeing the returns of shows like Bridgerton, The Umbrella Academy, and other favorites in 2024.
But unfortunately, 2024 will also mark the end of some of the most popular Netflix shows, including You starring Penn Badgley. Starting with the addicting thriller series, let's break down the best Netflix Originals that are coming to a close with their new seasons next year.
1. You
You has become a staple for Netflix after moving over from Lifetime, following a serial killer named Joe Goldberg who is played by the very talented Penn Badgley. Created by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble and based on the books by Caroline Kepnes, each season sees Joe leading new lives after murdering the people he gets close to and having to escape with a different identity.
The psychological thriller has given us some unexpected twists and turns throughout the years, and we have reason to believe the fourth season will be totally different given the way the third ended. Well, there's one more round for Joe. Will he finally get caught?
You was renewed for a fifth and final season which is expected to be released on Netflix sometime in 2024 — though the writers' and actors' strikes might have delayed it. It's entirely possible the show won't return until 2025 at this point, although the last we heard from the streamer, they said 2024.
2. Cobra Kai
Karate dramedy Cobra Kai is full of nostalgia, laughs, and heartfelt moments. Debuting as a YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium) series, this one also moved over to Netflix and has since become a major hit. Serving as a sequel series to the classic Karate Kid movies, the show sees the return of Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence.
Daniel and Johnny are still enemies in their adulthood, though both of their lives have changed drastically. And once their kids become involved in karate and they form a common enemy, they put aside their differences and come together for the good of their town.
Cobra Kai is coming to an end after six seasons, which we predict will be released at the end of 2024. Actress Courtney Henggeler confirmed to Screen Rant that filming will begin in January, meaning they might have just enough time to slide it in for an end-of-the-year release. Maybe another New Year's Eve premiere like they did for season 4? I'm crossing my fingers.
