4 best movies leaving Netflix in September 2024
By Reed Gaudens
It's a bummer every single month, but a handful of fan-favorite movies leave Netflix at the end of the month before a new collection of movies arrives the following month. In September, a number of popular movies are leaving Netflix, including two throwbacks and two beloved trilogies.
This month already saw a large number of unfortunate removals from Netflix, including a handful of complete series fans love to watch. The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, iZombie, and Jane the Virgin have already departed and soon Great News, Good Witch, and How to Get Away with Murder will join them in the final week of the month.
Looking to quickly watch your favorite movie before it leaves Netflix? We shared four good movies watch (eight total, actually!) to add to your watch list before time runs out!
The Divergent Series
Leaving Netflix: Sept. 30
If you need a quick fix of young adult dystopian adventure after watching the current No. 1 movie on Netflix Uglies, it's your last opportunity to have a marathon of all three Divergent movies.
Based on the series of books by Veronica Roth, Divergent takes place in a future version of Chicago in which society has intensely changed. Everyone is separated into factions based on five key virtues, but at 16 years old, they're allowed to choose a new faction. Tris (Shailene Woodley) moves factions and learns of her Divergence, a discovery that sparks a revolution.
While four movies were intended to be made, only three ended up happening: Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. See the whole story (well, most of it) play out before they depart Netflix.
A Walk to Remember
Leaving Netflix: Sept. 24
Tearjerker fans, listen up! There's only a couple more days left to watch A Walk to Remember in September. The fan-favorite Nicholas Sparks movie is leaving Netflix on Tuesday, Sept. 24, which makes this weekend the best time to have a good cathartic cry during movie night.
Based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name, A Walk to Remember stars Mandy Moore and Shane West as Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter, a mismatched pair of high schoolers pushed together by chance. Even though they couldn't be more different, they begin to fall in love. However, Jamie's illness threatens to tear apart their love story before it's even begun.
It's been over 20 years since the movie first hit theaters in 2002, but A Walk to Remember still hits the same with each watch. Dare you to not be moved to tears by the bittersweet ending!
Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy
Leaving Netflix: Sept. 30
The second of three movie trilogies leaving Netflix on the last day of September (Back to the Future also leaves the streamer this month), it's time to say your goodbyes to the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan star as Ana and Christian Grey in the steamy big-screen adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling book series of the same name. All three movies were huge hits and told the winding and often melodramatic love story of the two main characters. Oh, yeah... There's also the aspect of the movies that involves bondage.
If you love this movie trilogy, make sure to watch Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed on Netflix before they say farewell.
The Breakfast Club
Leaving Netflix: Sept. 30
The second of two of the month's best throwbacks leaving this month throws it all the way back to the '80s when John Hughes movies were defining a generation of teens. While it's sure to be back at some point in the future, The Breakfast Club is leaving Netflix on Sept. 30.
The Breakfast Club centers on five relative strangers from differing high school cliques forced to survive Saturday detention together. To their surprise, it's a day of boredom, arguments, enlightenment, and making new friends. Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, and Emilio Estevez star in the classic teen movie.
Earlier this year, The Breakfast Club's events turned 40 years old, celebrating the milestone anniversary on March 24. While the film takes place in March 1984, it wasn't released until February 1985, meaning the movie's 40th anniversary takes place in March 2025.
