6 fan-favorite shows are leaving Netflix in September 2024

Now that we're nearing the end of August, Netflix has released its full list of shows and movies coming to the platform in September. But while we're super excited about all the new content set to be released on Netflix throughout next month, we can't help but think of the shows and movies that will be making their departure.

Licensed content leaves Netflix every month, but in this upcoming month, there are several fan-favorite shows that we just know we'll have a hard time saying goodbye to. These shows have been on Netflix for a long time, and we often go back to rewatch them. So, to be unable to do so anymore is going to be hard.

Jane the Virgin

  • Netflix departure date: Sept. 6, 2024
  • Last day to watch: Sept. 5, 2024

One of the three CW shows leaving Netflix in September is Jane the Virgin. All five seasons of the romantic comedy-drama series will be removed next month. Per an old output deal between Netflix and The CW, any CW show on Netflix will remain on the streaming platform for five years after Netflix acquires its last season. Since five years are up since Jane the Virgin season 5 was added to Netflix, that's why it's about to be removed soon.

Jane the Virgin stars Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, a young Latina woman who is adamant about saving herself until marriage only to find herself knocked up after an accidental artificial insemination.

iZombie

Another CW show set for a September departure date is iZombie. It's a comedy-drama series starring Rose McIver as Liv Moore, a medical resident turned zombie who helps solve murders by consuming the brains of murder victims. By doing this, Liv is able to temporarily absorb some of the victims' memories, personality traits, and skills. Besides McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, David Anders, Aly Michalka, Robert Knepper, Bryce Hodgson, and many others are in the cast.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

The last CW show to leave Netflix in September is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It's a musical comedy-drama series starring Rachel Bloom as a successful lawyer named Rebecca Bunch. Although Rebecca has achieved much success in her career, she's unhappy with her life overall. That's why she jumps at the opportunity to relocate to California after a chance encounter with an old crush from high-school summer camp with whom she briefly dated in the past. Rachel hopes to rekindle an old flame, but she soon finds herself on a journey of self-discovery.

Great News

  • Netflix departure date: Sept. 28, 2024

Great News is a comedy sitcom created by Tracey Wigfield. It aired on NBC for two seasons before being canceled in May 2018. Unfortunately, those two seasons will be leaving Netflix this September. The show follows Katie Wendelson, an ambitious TV news producer who finds her life turned upside down when her mother, who had been a stay-at-home mom for most of her life, decides to rejoin the workforce and lands an intern position at her job. Briga Heelan stars in the leading role of Katie, while Andrea Martin plays Katie's mother, Carol.

Good Witch

  • Last day to watch: Sept. 29, 2024

All seven seasons of Good Witch will be departing Netflix in September. It's a heartfelt fantasy series following the lives of the residents of the fictional small town of Middleton. More specifically, the show follows good witch Cassie Nightingale and her teenage daughter Grace who shares the same unique abilities as her mother. The cast is made up of Catherine Bell, Bailee Madison, James Denton, Rhys Matthew Bond, Catherine Disher, Anthony Lemke, Kylee Evans, Peter MacNeill, and many others.

How to Get Away with Murder

  • Netflix departure date: Oct. 1, 2024
  • Last day to watch: Sept. 30, 2024

We've been dreading the day that How to Get Away with Murder leaves Netflix, and sadly, that time is coming soon. Truthfully, it's easily one of the best legal thrillers in TV history. It aired for six seasons on ABC before ending its run in May 2020. Now, those six seasons are slated to be departing Netflix on the first of October.

The legal thriller stars Viola Davis as Annalise Keating, a brilliant defense attorney and law professor who, along with some of her students, finds themselves entangled in a series of complicated and dangerous legal cases. Joining Davis in the cast are Billy Brown, Alfred Enoch, Jack Falahee, Katie Findlay, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Karla Souza, Charlie Weber, Liza Weil, and others.
