3 amazing Netflix shows that should've been renewed in 2023 (and we're still hoping will be renewed in 2024)

It's a new year and we're excited about all the new Netflix shows confirmed to be coming out, as well as the Netflix shows that will be returning with brand-new seasons. But as we look ahead, we can't help but to also think back about all the shows that didn't get the green light to come back for additional seasons.

We saw many brutal Netflix cancellations in 2023, such as 1899, Shadow and Bone, Inside Job and many others. But it wasn't all bad. We also saw the renewals for shows like Wednesday, Outer Banks, Ginny & Georgia, You, The Lincoln Lawyer, One Piece, Sweet Magnolias etc.

Unfortunately, there were even some Netflix shows whose fate was still left up in the air at the end of the year. In fact, we really like three of those shows and still hope they'll be eventually renewed. But as time goes on, the chances of these shows being renewed become slimmer and slimmer. If you're curious about what those three shows are, all you need to do is continue reading to find out.

Beef

A24 pretty much always produces A1 content, and Beef was no exception. The comedy-drama series was initially believed to have been billed as a limited series, so I had already prepared myself for the show not to come back. But once the show came out in April 2023 and was an instant hit, it was revealed to not be a limited series. The show's creator Lee Sung Jin even spoke with multiple news outlets after the show's release and talked about plans for a second and even third season.

But sadly, Netflix hasn't said a word on whether the show will return. This is truly mind-boggling seeing as though in just its first month on the streamer, the first season managed to accumulate 171,750,000 million hours viewed. Critics and viewers alike even enjoyed watching this series. So, where's that Beef season 2 renewal? We'd like to know!

Everything Now

I will speak highly of Everything Now any chance I get. I mean, I immediately added this teen show to my watchlist once I found out who was going to be starring in it. You literally have Talk to Me star Sophie Wilde in the leading role. Sign me up!

But what I loved most about Everything Now is how it focused on a real issue that many people face and didn't try to romanticize it. It was also well-acted and had good representation. Although the show centered around a teen girl trying to recover from a lengthy battle with an eating disorder, there were enough light moments in the series that kept it from getting too sad or heavy.

Unfortunately, we still don't know if there will be a Everything Now season 2 since Netflix hasn't said anything about the show coming back. The first season was released in October 2023 and didn't fare as well as we would've hoped. It's been three months since the first season's premiere, and we still haven't heard any news on a season 2 renewal. This leads us to believe that Netflix might quietly cancel the series or officially cancel it soon. We hope not, but that's what it's looking like.

Survival of the Thickest

Survival of the Thickest is that feel-good series you turn on and watch with your closest girlfriends. It stars Michelle Buteau as Mavis Beaumont, a newly single fashion stylist who finds herself having to rebuild her life as well as her career as a stylist. Luckily for her, she has her close friends, Khalil (Tone Bell) and Marley (Tasha Smith), to help her along the way.

The first season came out in July 2023, and now we're in January 2024. It's been almost six months since the first season's release, and we still don't know if a second season is happening. Honestly, it looks like it's another quiet cancellation, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that this isn't the case.
