Who’s ready for Outer Banks season 3? Based on various rumors and the production schedule, we might not be waiting too much longer!
Outer Banks season 2 premiered on Netflix on July 30, 2021. It’s so wild that it’s already been that long. It feels like we were just watching the Pogues try to stay one step ahead of Ward Cameron, Limbrey, and find more treasure in the new season.
Of course, fans are getting rather impatient and anxiously awaiting any news about Outer Banks season 3 and the future of the Netflix original series.
How many seasons of Outer Banks are on Netflix?
There are two seasons of Outer Banks available to stream on Netflix right now. It also makes for a great re-watch if you need something to watch.
Will there be an Outer Banks season 3?
Yes! Netflix finally revealed the Outer Banks season 3 renewal news.
On Dec. 7, 2021, the official Outer Banks Twitter account shared a video of the cast announcing the long-awaited great news that season 3 is officially a go!
According to an earlier report from Small Screen, Outer Banks season 3 had already been renewed at Netflix. The report cites a source close to production who shared that the creative team is already working on season 3 AND season 4!
Now, and this is assuming that report is accurate, and it seems as though it was onto something given Netflix’s official season 3 renewal. We’d hoped for a multi-season renewal just like Netflix did with Bridgerton (for three seasons!) and Virgin River (for two seasons!).
Netflix also renewed The Witcher and Cobra Kai before the new seasons were released. So, things might be changing a little bit with how Netflix orders renewals. Normally, Netflix almost waits at least a month from the premiere of a new season before announcing the new season. Prior to the renewal announcement, we were nearly six months removed from the premiere of Outer Banks season 2.
Netflix renewed Outer Banks for season 3 just in time for the holidays. We didn’t expect to wait a long time to find out Outer Banks season 3 is happening, but it turns out it was well worth the wait. This is one of the best Netflix shows of 2021. Fans want to see the new season. There’s so much more story to tell.

Outer Banks season 3 plot synopsis
Outer Banks season 3 has a lot of interesting dynamics at play. Obviously, the Pogues have to return to the Outer Banks where there will be lots of questions about what happened.
We also know this is very personal now for John B, Sarah, and now Pope. Kie, JJ and Cleo have less interest in getting revenge on the Camerons. There’s also the Shroud that needs to be found.
At the end of Outer Banks season 2, we see Limbrey and Big John (John B’s dad) making a pact. If Limbrey helps John B and his friends, Big John will find the Shroud for Limbrey. Will the Pogues get close with Limbrey? That could be a source of division with Limbrey’s horrible history and how she treated Pope and the Pogues.
We also know that they’re going to go after Ward at some point for the gold and the cross.
There are several romantic relationships in flux right now, as well. John B and Sarah seem solid, but we all can see the chemistry between JJ and Kie. There’s also some chemistry with Cleo and Pope.
Here’s how Netflix officially describes the upcoming season:
"After losing the gold and fleeing the Outer Banks, Season 3 finds the Pogues washed ashore on a desert island that, for a brief moment, seems like an idyllic home. Officially deemed “Poguelandia,” the island’s newest residents spend their days fishing, swimming, and reveling in the carefree lifestyle of their temporary dwelling. But things quickly go south for John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo when they find themselves once again caught up in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives. They’re broke and far from home, they can’t trust anyone, Ward and Rafe are hungry for revenge, and there’s a ruthless Caribbean Don who will stop at nothing to find the bounty. Was the treasure ever within their reach? Or was it all a trap to stop them once and for all? Either way, it’s the Pogues against the world – and the only way out is together."
