One of the most soul-crushing things a streaming fan can experience is logging into Netflix, ready to dive into a show they love, only to find it’s no longer available. That series you counted on for laughs, thrills, or comfort? Poof. Gone. But sometimes, this is the unfortunate reality when it comes to content on Netflix.
And sadly, Star Trek fans are about to feel that sting firsthand. One of the franchise’s most underrated shows, a series that brought fresh energy, unique characters, and thrilling adventures to the Star Trek universe, is set to leave Netflix next month.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is slated to depart Netflix in January 2026

Unfortunately, Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will be leaving Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. This means the last day to stream all 20 episodes on the platform is Dec. 31, 2025. The streaming giant has even posted an official notice on the show’s title page indicating it will be removed. The first season was removed back in June 2025, and now with the second installment departing soon, no part of the series will be left on Netflix.
Those who have been faithfully following Star Trek: Prodigy know that the show has had a tricky and turbulent journey. The critically acclaimed animated series was unexpectedly cancelled and removed from Paramount+ back in June 2023, leaving fans in limbo for several months before Netflix picked it up in October 2023. The first season, which had already premiered on Paramount+, was released on Netflix in December 2023. Then, the unreleased second season debuted on the streaming platform in July 2024.
While there were hopes that Netflix would eventually order a third season, the streaming giant ultimately passed. At this point, it's pretty clear that Star Trek: Prodigy's run has come to an end. To make matters worse, the show doesn't even have a new streaming home set after it leaves Netflix. So, the only way you'll be able to watch the animated series after its removal is by purchasing individual episodes or entire seasons via digital platforms. Or you can buy physical copies online or in-store.
Kevin and Dan Hageman created Star Trek: Prodigy. Although aimed at younger audiences, the series also appeals to longtime fans. Serving as the tenth series in the franchise, Star Trek: Prodigy takes place in the year 2383 and follows a group of alien teenagers who discover an abandoned Starfleet ship, the USS Protostar. Lacking training and experience, they must learn how to operate the vessel, navigate the galaxy, and work together as a team, all while facing various challenges and adversaries.
The voice cast included many talented actors such as Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Angus Imrie, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, Jimmi Simpson, John Noble, Kate Mulgrew, Robert Beltran, Robert Picardo, Jameela Jamil, and Wil Wheaton.
