It seriously sucks when Netflix pulls a licensed show you love. You’ve spent hours, maybe even days, binging the series in its entirety, only for the streaming giant to remove it from its platform. It’s a harsh, frustrating reminder that nothing on streaming services truly belongs to the viewer, and it's always best to appreciate every licensed show while you still have access to it.

In fact, fans of one beloved teen series are about to face this unfortunate reality soon, as Netflix prepares to remove it from its library just ahead of its highly anticipated third season. In a few weeks, School Spirits will no longer be available to stream on Netflix.

School Spirits season 1 is scheduled to depart Netflix in December 2025

We knew the day would eventually come, but boy, do we wish it had come much later. Sadly, Netflix subscribers will have to say goodbye to School Spirits season 1 this December. The exact departure date is Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025. Yes, that's New Year's Eve. The streaming giant has even put up a removal notice on the show's title page to really confirm things. The last day to stream School Spirits season 1 in its entirety on Netflix is Dec. 30, 2025.

The first season of the hit supernatural teen series was originally added to Netflix back in November 2023 after Paramount+ decided to license it in order to reach a wider audience and generate excitement for the upcoming second season. Then, in May 2025, a removal notice appeared on the show's title page on Netflix, stating that the first season would be removed on May 30.

Since that never happened, Netflix and Paramount+ must have reached a last-minute agreement to keep the show available a little longer. But now that agreement is about to come to an end, with the show confirmed to be departing Netflix on Dec. 31. This is just a month before the season 3 premiere on Paramount+, which is on Jan. 28, 2026.

Created by Megan and Nate Trinrud, School Spirits centers around Maddie Nears, a teen girl who becomes trapped in the afterlife at her high school. Determined to solve the mystery of her own disappearance, she teams up with other ghost students and, eventually, her living best friend, Simon, who can interact with her while she’s a ghost.

Peyton List stars in the leading role of Maddie, while Kristian Ventura takes on the role of Simon. Also in the cast are Milo Manheim, Spencer MacPherson, Kiara Pichardo, Sarah Yarkin, Nick Pugliese, Rainbow Wedell, Josh Zuckerman, and many others.

It’s unknown whether the first season will ever return to Netflix, or if the second and third seasons will be added to the platform at any point in the future. That said, you'll just have to get your School Spirits fix on Paramount+. That's where the first two seasons are already streaming, and where season 3 will premiere next month.
