It’s true, there are plans for a live-action series of Scooby-Doo. Netflix has just announced that a brand new series has been given the green light. We’ll be seeing Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, and all the gang on our screens again, but not as animated cartoons. This will be the first-ever series of the classic cartoon show to be made as a live-action TV series.
Sure, we’ve had some movies in that format over the years, with Scooby-Doo (2002), and the inevitable follow-up, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004). Both scored big box office success, grossing a combined $430 million worldwide. And we've had a couple of TV movies with Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins (2009) and its sequel, Scooby-Doo! Curse Of The Lake Monster (2010).
But that's a while ago now, and the ever-popular characters merit an exciting new venture and an up-to-date approach. It was talked about in 2024 but the Netflix green light confirms the series is on its way. Mine owners, mysterious villains, and others should start looking at their face masks and disguises now.
What do we know about the new Scooby-Doo live-action series coming to Netflix?

What's the plot?
Well, the high-level outline of the plot has Shaggy and Daphne meeting up with Velma and Fred at a summer camp. It looks like we are going down a prequel early days line as they join forces to solve a puppy dog mystery. There’s a sad and lonely Great Dane puppy around, and it may have been a witness to a strange murder.
The Scooby-Doo setup and how Mystery Inc. started are being reimagined for modern-day times, and we can expect some darker twists in the new story. The series will be played out over eight episodes.
Who is involved in making the show?
Warner Bros. Television holds all the original rights for the characters and will be producing the show. There’s plenty of creativity among the executive producers with the Midnight Radio team led by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, along with Jeff Pinkner and Andre Nemec. Appelbaum and Rosenberg will also be the writers and showrunners for the series. Extra support on the executive production will come from Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman.
Who will we see in the roles and when?
This is where we’ll need patience. It’s no use chasing around like Shaggy and Scooby-Doo chasing down a snack. The simple answer to both questions is that the information isn't available yet. Casting will be interesting for sure. No doubt Netflix and the production team are already well underway with that.
Netflix schedules are always busy, but they'll have some broad timelines they are working to. We’ll all have to keep an eye on Netflix updates to their slate so we know when the groovy gang of sleuths will be heading our way.
