The Virgin River universe continues to expand, or to put it more accurately, the Robyn Carr universe continues to expand. The successful romance author wrote the book series that inspired Netflix's popular series Virgin River and The CW's new fan-favorite show Sullivan's Crossing. According to a report, Thunder Point could be the next Carr book series to hit the small screen.

As reported by Deadline on Oct. 29, Virgin River executive producer and Sullivan's Crossing creator and writer Roma Roth has set her sights on the next Carr property to be adapted for television. Roth will now develop Thunder Point, which comprises of nine books released between 2013 and 2015, into a television series full of drama, mystery, and — of course! — romance.

Currently, as of the announcement of Thunder Point's development, a network or streamer isn't attached to the project. Given the success of Roth's adaptations of Carr's work on both Netflix and The CW, those seem to be the most likely potential homes for the series. Selfishly, Virgin River fans should hope Netflix throws its hat in the ring to snag the rights to stream the show.

Thunder Point could be the next Virgin River

Like Virgin River, Carr's Thunder Point books take place in the titular small coastal town and centers on its diverse community. This particular book series follows a male protagonist named Hank Cooper as he finds his way to Thunder Point for an old pal's funeral and inherits a home on the town's beach. The new resident becomes the talk of the town, especially when he romances Sarah Dupre.

Obviously, its inherent similarities to Virgin River make Thunder Point the perfect fit as a Netflix original series. Not to mention, the romantic drama would slide right into the streamer's growing lineup of page-to-screen romantic drama series, which includes Sweet Magnolia (based on Sherryl Woods' books) and the upcoming romantic Western drama Ransom Canyon (based on Jodi Thomas' books).

As Virgin River continues to age, having been renewed for a seventh season, Netflix should consider adding onto its romance roster. There's already a Virgin River prequel spinoff in the works, and the flagship could very well continue for many more seasons to come, but why not snag an excellent companion series that can follow in the hit show's footsteps?

Along with the announcement that Thunder Point will be adapted for television, Roth shared a statement about what's to come:

"Thunder Point has drama, mystery, and romance, all the ingredients you need to successfully build a global hit series. It is certain to appeal to fans of both Sullivan’s Crossing and Virgin River but this time the story is told from a male perspective. We are beyond excited to be continuing our incredibly successful run with best-selling author Robyn Carr."

It's still early days for the Thunder Point adaptation, but more information could be announced soon about if it's moving ahead and which network or streamer the series will call home. Whether it's The CW, Netflix, or another entity entirely, fans will be spoiled with another amazing and intriguing love story. But again, let's keep our fingers crossed Netflix can snatch this future smash.
