3 new Netflix shows to watch (and 2 to skip) in August 2026

As we head into the last full month of summer, Netflix isn't backing down from delivering some of the best new releases of not only the season but the year. So far this summer, Netflix has given us plenty of great series to binge-watch, whether it's Harlan Coben's latest mystery I Will Find You or the hot new season of the romantic drama series Ransom Canyon.

Before summer comes to a close, there are still some highly anticipated Netflix shows to add to your watch list, as the full list of new releases coming to Netflix in August features plenty of titles that viewers won't want to miss. From the final season of Outer Banks to the latest batch of new episodes of Leanne, there's something for everyone to binge-watch in the coming month.

But are all of the new Netflix shows premiering in August 2026 worth watching? For certain veiwers, yes, all of these shows will be added straight to your watch list. However, we're giving our recommendations for which shows are must-watches and which could be skipped to watch another time. Let's get the recommendations started with one of the series ending this month!

One Hundred Years of Solitude part 2

Skip! Now, just because One Hundred Years of Solitude might be designated as a skip on this list doesn't mean that's any indication of the show's quality. It's a great series that was nominated for a Peabody Award, but it's not the kind of series that most Netflix watchers are rushing to watch.

One Hundred Years of Solitude returns on Aug. 5 with the first part of its second and final season. The season begins with seven episodes dropping upon premiered with the grand finale, teased as an otherwise feature-length series finale, dropping on Aug. 26.

If you're a fan of the novel by Gabriel García Márquez and enjoyed watching the first season when it premiered on Netflix back in December 2024, definitely make sure you don't miss what's sure to be an excellent final season. But if you're not a fan, this one can be saved for a rainy day.

My Life with the Walter Boys season 3

Watch! For a lot of people, My Life with the Walter Boys has become one of the essential Netflix original series. It's hard not to become completely obsessed with a teen drama series with a love triangle at its center, especially one as captivating in the hit Netflix series.

The series returns following the second season's cliffhangers, including Jackie and Cole admitting their feelings for each other as Alex overheard. As if the relationships in this show couldn't get more complicated, season 3 arrives to continue stirring the pot.

My Life with the Walter Boys season 3 premieres on Aug. 6 on Netflix with 10 all-new episodes. The next chapter of this story begins, and thankfully for devoted fans, we don't have to worry about the show's fate. Netflix already renewed the beloved show for season 4.

Tires season 3

Skip! If there's on comedy series you should add to your Netflix watch list in August 2026, it's not Tires. Sure, there's an audience that really enjoys the comedy series from stand-up comedian Shane Gillis, but this isn't the kind of series that's accessible for a wide audience.

Tires centers on the employees of a struggling auto-repair shop as their varied personalities and dynamics clash and make for some humorous moments. But you should only add Tires season 3 to your lineup when it premieres on Aug. 13 if you're already of fan of Gillis' comedy.

Outer Banks season 5

Watch! Some might call the final season of Outer Banks the marquee title on Netflix in August 2026. We have been waiting and waiting and waiting for season 5 to premiere for over two years, since season 4 dropped all the way back in November 2024.

But it's finally time to join the Pogues for one last adventure as they pick up the pieces and continue to close in on their enemies, especially after JJ's death. There's surely some revenge and score settling to come in Outer Banks season 5 after the Pogues lost one of their own.

Mark your calendars for Aug. 20 when all 10 episodes of the final season begin streaming. There's still time to catch up, either rewatching the series or finally seeing what all the hype has been about before we find out how the story ends once and for all.

Leanne season 2

Watch! When it comes to comedy, Leanne Morgan's eponymous comedy sitcom Leanne is the real must-watch on Netflix in August 2026. From Chuck Lorre, the series is nothing short of the nostalgic, comforting comedy we have loved and has endured from years past.

Leanne season 2 picks up after the first season's ending with the birth of Leanne's grandchild and her romantic life continuing to seemingly be on the upswing. There are some exciting guest stars in store for season 2, like country star Lainey Wilson and Mom favorite Jaime Pressly.

There's no doubt fans have been counting down the moments until the second season, which is unfortunately bit shorter than season 1, lands on our watch lists. The wait finally comes to an end on Aug. 27 when all the laughs we need become an end of summer must-watch.
