So far this fall, Netflix has been on a real winning streak when it comes to adding a diverse slate of television shows to watch. Beyond the extensive selection of original series, which includes the likes of East of Eden, A Different World, and more, the streaming service has also added great favorites like The Way Home, Percy Jackson & the Olympians, and Murder in a Small Town.
There are lots more great series coming to Netflix throughout the fall months, and even though we have a full list of content to look forward to, the streamer is still finding ways to surprise us with new additions. That's why Netflix picking up The Goldbergs spinoff series Schooled without making an announcement was quite the pleasant surprise for fans to find this month.
The Goldbergs spinoff Schooled now streaming on Netflix
Schooled began streaming on Netflix at the start of October 2026 and breaks an unfortunate cycle of streaming unavailability for the short-lived comedy. The series first made its debut in January 2018 with a backdoor pilot in The Goldbergs season 5 before officially premiering as its own series in January 2019. Unfortunately, ABC canceled the show after only two seasons in May 2020.

While The Goldbergs followed the exploits of the titular family throughout the 1980s, Schooled took place in the 1990s as Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka) returns to William Penn Academy in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania to become the school's new music teacher. Lainey takes on the challenges of working in education alongside her eccentric coworkers and lively students.
In addition to Michalka leading the cast, Schooled also stars Tim Meadows as Principal Glascott, Bryan Callen as Coach Mellor, Brett Dier as C.B., and Haneefah Wood as Wilma Howell. The spinoff also featured guest appearances from The Goldbergs stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, and Shayne Topp.
Despite being mostly well-received by critics and receiving rather stable ratings, ABC opted to end the spinoff after only 34 episodes. Throughout its short run, viewership continued to decline instead of growing like its sire series. It didn't help that the series downward momentum began at the start of the pandemic, which caused many shows to be benched, shortened, or canceled.
Schooled took an unexpected path to its final form, as the backdoor pilot that aired in The Goldbergs season 5 was the initial iteration of the concept that ABC passed on. The development process after that airing arrived at the show that finally hit the airwaves and became an underrated hit. But the curse of the short-lived spinoff struck again. Who would have thought it would end up on Netflix?
Perhaps what's most frustrating for fans is that you can't watch both The Goldbergs and Schooled on the same streaming service. All 10 seasons of The Goldbergs are available to stream on Hulu and Disney+ with a bundle subscription and isn't expected to be added to Netflix alongside its spinoff. Thankfully, the spinoff is finally available to watch again somewhere.
It's currently unclear how long the series will remain available on Netflix, but being a quick binge, fans can surely watch multiple times starting now. Before checking out the series, watch the first-look trailer in the video below!
