The top five most viewed Netflix movies and shows for last week, listed on TUDUM, have some big hitters in there. The movies had over 30 million views, and the top five shows had another 40 million. And that’s just for the week to April 13. That’s a whole lot of watching going on.

On the movie front, viewers continued to love a recent romantic comedy and a couple of prehistoric settings. There’s the warmth and humor from a new family comedy and a fun caper for all ages, with the ever-present scenario of good versus bad. Mind you, these are the goodies in this particular film.

As for the shows, those 40 million viewers have made some great choices. A strong view of society and its problems is a theme for the two at the top. But that's balanced with a touch of animation and that good versus evil theme again. The top five also includes two hot dramas, one in its first outing, the other being an old favorite back for another season. There’s something for everyone this week, for sure.

5 - The Croods

Here’s a big hit from 2013 out of the DreamWorks Animation studios. It’s back in the top five again with many recent views. It’s a great adventure story for the family; PG rating applies. Plenty of slapstick comedy as the various characters and animals from this made-up prehistoric period, The Croodaceous.

4 - Meet The Khumalos

Meet the Khumalos is a newly released comedy movie from South Africa. It is a remake of Meet the Kandasamys from 2017. It’s a funny, warm film with great characters. The storyline is about a couple of best friends who are now enemies. Their situation changes when they discover their children are dating, and they decide to break up the couple.

3 - Rise Of The Guardians

This 2012 animation, just out in April, is a charming watch. It’s a story of good over bad as Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the Sandman combine forces with Jack Frost to fend off the baddie, Pitch Black. It’s a decent antidote over Easter for family viewing while the world goes mad outside.

2 - Alpha

A second week and a move up from third to second for Alpha. The prehistoric adventure of a young boy, Keda, and a wolf, Alpha, is brilliantly set on a pre-ice age landscape. First released in 2018, it’s proving very popular now that it’s available on Netflix.

1 - The Life List

A third week in the top five and all in the top slot for The Life List. That old rom-com magic continues with over 13 million viewers last week. Sofia Carson, Kyle Allen, and Connie Britton lead the cast and entertain the viewers. The critics were less kind, but what do they know?

5 - Devil May Cry

This adult animation series continues its top-five run into a second week. The white rabbit is the demon trying to foil Dante and invade Earth. Fans of the original Japanese video game will love the adaptation of the storyline.

4 - Black Mirror: Season 7

Six excellent tales of technology and its impact on society hit our screens in this latest season of the dystopian drama. Black Mirror has been a must-watch over the years, and these new episodes continue that form. Individual stories add variety and a range of perspectives of satirical sci-fi that you won't want to miss.

3 - Pulse

This medical drama got off to a great start and looked likely to be a long-running series. It’s still very popular with viewers, but the critics are less keen. That could raise questions about a second season. There’s still hope that the characters and storylines of Miami’s Level 1 trauma center will keep beating strongly for the public and pull through in the end.

2 - Adolescence

It had a remarkable fifth week in the top five; the first time, it was not at number one. Adolescence still scored close to ten million views last week, which is quite an incredible run. The story is as harrowing as ever, but it remains an essential show for everyone.

1 - Bad Influence: The Dark Side Of Kidfluencing

This three-part documentary takes a different look at how the internet, apps, and influencers impact teenagers and children. It follows the tale of young social media star Pippa Rockelle and her mother/manager, Tiffany Smith. It’s not as gut-wrenching as Adolescence, but there isn’t much that’s comfortable viewing, with the focus very much on the dark side, as the title indicates.
