Netflix has got to be making money on the deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle somehow. Their contract is only a few years old, but only one of the royal couple's shows with your favorite streamer has been a real success: the 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan.
Markle's new series with the streamer is With Love, Meghan. The passion project was met with bad reviews and relatively poor views. It managed to slide inside Netflix's top-10 shows, but just barely. It had 2.6 million streams in week one. The steaming giant had to hope for better.
But Netflix has enough faith in the series' potential that season two, which will be released in the autumn, was already filming as season one was released. In that season, we saw Markle try to appear like one of us common folk. We were led to believe she cooked (she didn't) and worked diligently on different projects while having downtime with friends.
Third season of With Love, Meghan will be coming whether you like it or not
Of course, her friend group read like a list of A-listers (most of whom, to be fair, we really like on screen), and Markle obviously just led a life of luxury. We aren't judging her for how she lives; she has a right to do so as she wishes. The issue is that viewers don't need to be fed a disingenuous storyline that makes Markle appear different from what she is.
While the views were low, and the reviews (both from critics and viewers) were harsh, season two would be coming to Netflix no matter what. But now we know there will also be a third season. We might not want the series, but Netflix will give it to us anyway.
Maybe we should be more positive, though. Markle and Harry are not bad people, but the Duchess's show was not good. Perhaps in the future it will be better and more self-aware. Let's hope because it will appear on our screens, no matter what we think.
