4 Netflix shows every Gilmore Girls fan should watch after the show leaves

Gilmore Girls ends its Netflix era, but after the show leaves, the streamer still has plenty of shows that fans will love binge-watching.

As much as we hate to see them go, Lorelai and Rory are leaving Netflix and beginning a new streaming chapter. That's right, after over a decade on the streamer, Gilmore Girls officially leaves Netflix on June 30, 2026. A long-time staple on the platform, the show's removal has hit fans hard as a trip to Stars Hollow will no longer be as easy as turning on Netflix.

Thankfully, the series won't be without a streaming home, as the original seven seasons remain available to watch on Hulu and will be added to Prime Video on July 1. There's no doubt that Gilmore Girls will continue to have a bright future in the streaming space for the rest of its long, long lifespan, and leaving Netflix could even be one of the best things possible for its legacy.

But what are those of us hanging around Netflix without Lorelai and Rory to do next? Even without Gilmore Girls as a constant on our watch lists on the streaming service, there are still plenty of funny, heartfelt, mother-daughter, multi-generational series to watch and fall in love with over and over again. Here are four Netflix shows to watch in the absence of Gilmore Girls.

Ginny & Georgia

The most obvious choice for a Gilmore Girls stand-in on Netflix, the streaming service is the proud owner of its own mother-daughter comedy-drama series. Ginny & Georgia has earned comparisons to the enduring hit, mostly because of the young single mother of a teenage daughter connection.

Obviously, the shows have very glaring dissimilarities, including the fact that Georgia has two children and the series also employs a dramatically different kind of drama storytelling. But for the most part Ginny & Georgia scratches the same itch as Gilmore Girls when it comes to teen and family situations.

Currently, there are three seasons of Ginny & Georgia available to stream on Netflix, and filming on the upcoming fourth season has already wrapped. Whether you're already a fan or you're just now discovering the show, it's the perfect time for a binge-watch before season 4 arrives.

The Four Seasons

Tina Fey's comedy series The Four Seasons might not be the most obvious pick to watch after Gilmore Girls, but I would venture to say that both series share a pretty similar sense of humor. What most people don't want to admit is that Gilmore Girls, at its core, is a comedy series.

The Four Seasons, which is based on a lesser known '80s movie that Lorelai definitely loves, finds a chaotic group of long-time friends coming together four times a year for some kind of vacation or gathering that typically involves or ends in some sort of humorous complication.

So far, the series has dropped two seasons and Netflix has already renewed season 3. Gilmore Girls fans will be missing the overarching teen perspective, but the point of view is on par with where Lorelai is in A Year in the Life. Our girl 100 percent can't get enough of this show!

Never Have I Ever

Like The Four Seasons, you might not assume that Mindy Kaling's teen comedy Never Have I Ever would be a one-for-one recommendation for Gilmore Girls fans, but a certain portion of the show's fandom overlaps for a few very specific and obvious reasons when you break it down.

Never Have I Ever centers on a teenage girl trying to fit in at high school and navigate her crush on the most popular boy in school. That's not totally Rory's journey, but Devi and Rory are kindred spirits. Not to mention, Never Have I Ever also focuses a good amount of its story on the complex dynamic between Devi and her mother, a theme that's the thesis statement of Gilmore Girls.

Even though the series has long ended, there are four seasons of Never Have I Ever available to watch on Netflix, and you don't have to worry about a cliffhanger ending. The series ended on its own terms with a staisfying conclusion that wraps up Devi's arc in a neat little bow.

Ransom Canyon

Last but certainly not least, I'd be remiss not to include at least one romantic drama series that's based in a small American town. Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias didn't feel quite right for Gilmore Girls fans, but Ransom Canyon should be right up our alley.

Sure, the series starring Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel takes place in the South when The WB/CW comedy-drama takes place in New England. But there's still an overlap in that apparent Americana essence in both shows, and Ransom Canyon also hits those multi-generational beats.

The series centers on various love stories ranging from Gen X adults all the way to Gen Z teens, and it's all wrapped up in intriguing mystery and emotional yearning. Again, not quite the vibe Gilmore Girls brings, but Ransom Canyon offers another great escape for a comforting binge-watch.
