Netflix makes The Gentlemen season 3 official ahead of season 2 release

Since The Gentlemen season 2 finally got a release date earlier this summer, fans have been counting down the days for the show's return on Sept. 3 after over two years of waiting. But before the show could even return with its latest batch of episodes, Netflix gifted fans with the best news possible. After a bit of speculation, the streamer confirmed the series will be back for season 3.

Before Netflix made The Gentlemen season 3 renewal official, there had been rumors swirling that Meghan Markle was eyeing her return to acting with a role in the hit Netflix series. However, the star was reportedly dropped from consideration for appearing in the show, though casting decision are likely too soon to make official. But we do know that season 3 is official.

The Gentlemen season 3 gets early renewal from Netflix

Over a week before the season 2 premiere, Netflix announced The Gentlemen season 3 renewal, confirming that the series will be back with another eight-episode season. Even better news, the Guy Ritchie crime comedy-drama is already in pre-production, and according to Variety, the episodes are looking to begin filming "imminently" despite scripts and casting not being finalized.

Upon the show's renewal, Ritchie shared a tease about what to expect from the third season, and while he gave nothing away about the story, he hinted at some exciting shifts in store. "The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.

The Gentlemen season 3 will once again have Ritchie back as director and co-writer alongside Matthew Read. As previously stated, casting decisions haven't been made official at this time, though fans can at the very least expect Theo James and Kaya Scodelario to be back in their leading roles with other major main and recurring stars from the series also coming back for season 3.

Perhaps the best part of the news for fans, beside the fact that a third season has already been confirmed, is that Netflix intends to get the production process moving along a bit faster this time around. Of course, there were unavoidable delays the last time around due to the strikes, but the fact that season 3 could begin filming before the end of 2026 bodes well for the wait between seasons.

It's too early to predict when The Gentlemen season 3 could premiere on Netflix and if could even be sometime in 2027. But unlike with the second season, we can be far more optimistic with our predictions. Depending on when cameras begin rolling, filming will last for between five and six months, and after that, post-production can take just as much time.

For now, we can at least rule out a wait between seasons 2 and 3 that takes over two years, which is a development we can chalk up to a major win. Another big win? Being able to watch The Gentlemen season 2 without being worried that the series won't be coming back for another season in the event of a possible season-ending cliffhanger.
