If you're a huge fan of Noah Wyle and his Emmy Award-winning medical drama series The Pitt, and you have already binge-watched ER, Netflix has another Wyle series ready for your watch list.
As the streaming service continues to license more and more shows from past and present to bring viewers the most content possible, their library has grown so much and will continue to do so in the beginning of the new year. On Jan. 1, 2026, Netflix added the TNT original sci-fi drama series Falling Skies, which stars Noah Wyle and comes from executive producer Steven Spielberg.
Because of Wyle's current resurgence in popularity with The Pitt, which returns with season 2 on HBO Max beginning on Jan. 8, there's no doubt that Falling Skies will quickly climb its way up the top 10 most popular shows ranking the second it releases on Netflix. While it was previously available to stream on HBO Max, it was later removed and this is the first time it's getting a new streaming home.
Falling Skies premiered in June 2011 on TNT and ran for five seasons, ultimately coming to an end in August 2015. All five seasons will be available to stream on Netflix, allowing fans to binge-watch the complete series all in one go. This show in particularly shows Wyle as fans might not be used to from his doctor roles in The Pitt and ER and his adventurer in The Librarians.
The science fiction series takes place months after an alien invasion on Earth that caused mass fatalities and essentially turned the world into a dystopian wasteland. Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), a history professor before the alien attack, rises to a position of power as the second-in-command of the paramilitary group who are leaving Boston in search of loved ones and safety.
In addition to Wyle in the lead, the Falling Skies cast also includes Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Jessy Schram, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Peter Shinkoda, Mpho Koaho, Connor Jessup, Will Patton, Sarah Carter, Colin Cunningham, Doug Jones, and Scarlett Byrne.
Even though the show has been mostly underrated since it both premiered and came to an end, Falling Skies earned critical acclaim and holds a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. All five of the seasons also boast "fresh" ratings that don't go below 70%, which might be a rarity for a long-running series, especially one in such a specific genre like science fiction.
Falling Skies is just one of the many shows hailing from Warner Bros. Television coming to Netflix in January 2026. The others include The Following, Prodigal Son, Veronica Mars, Southland, and Rizzoli & Isles. Their additions came shortly after Netflix officially moved to purchase Warner Bros. in a deal that exceeded $80 billion. Maybe it's a tease of what's to come once the deal goes through.
