Raw, scary, thrilling and suspenseful are some terms that can be coined to define Ma.

Released back in 2019, Ma, an American psychological horror movie, is currently proving to be a Netflix favorite for many of its viewers. It was directed by Tate Taylor and written by Scotty Landes. The movie stars the all-famous The Help actress Octavia Spencer in the lead role, with Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, Corey Fogelmanis, Gianni Paolo, McKaley Miller, and Luke Evans being part of the cast members.

The plot revolves around a middle-aged woman who befriends some teenagers after buying them booze on request. Later she offers them a place to party in after hours in her basement. Initially, it all seemed fine, even though the setup in her basement gave eerie vibes. As planned, everything was supposed to go well until the rules for partying were broken and that is when she snaps.

From being an absolute delight of a fun middle-aged woman to a crazy psychopath, Ma changes her persona immediately into something that creeps and feeds your fears. As the movie progresses, it explains, with the help of various flashbacks, what led to this neurotic behavior wreaking vengeance and acceptance while everyone who came near her suffered.

"Don't Talk to strangers" or you may meet Ma

This movie is like an eye opener for parents who have young kids or teenagers in the house as it quite very well depicts the erratic and daring attitude of youngsters who can fall prey due to their gullibility. The old saying, “Don’t talk to strangers," is proven right in this movie because even if the storyline is fictitious, it raises concerns about what dangers a stranger could be hiding behind a smiling face.

The movie is remarkable for those who admire dark wit, calculated logic, and heart-racing moments. It is admirable how the narrative may bring the viewers to feel pity for the antagonist as everything is pieced together in such a raw and alluring fashion that the world Ma lives in seems justified.

Though this movie received mixed criticism, it is still worth a watch if you are a thriller buff. Along with this, parents with a young family also need to give it a watch in order to understand better how today’s teenagers may think or behave.

So, are you up for some suspenseful movie time? Then watch Ma as it is available on Netflix.
