There are some casts that you would want to watch even if they were being themselves, and sitting around a dinner table talking about whatever. That's the case with the Ocean's 11 crew with George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and all the others. They are entertaining in themselves.

The same can be said of the cast of Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club. A bunch of actors you know from a bunch of things perform their roles as an older group of Brits who go about solving murders for fun. It's a bit like Only Murders in the Building, but...wait. No, it's a lot like that Hulu series.

This is especially true as the plot of TTMC turns when the three Brits and one Irish lad, played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan (he's Irish), Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie, find that a murder has occurred extremely close to them. They go from having a bit of fun investigating cold cases to needing to figure out who committed the crime.

Netflix's first The Thursday Murder Club trailer implies lots of fun

The basis for The Thursday Murder Club is the 2020 novel of the same name by author Richard Osman. The Netflix film will be directed by Chris Columbus. The release date is August 28, but only on your favorite streamer.

The great part is that this week, we got our first look at the film as Netflix put out the first trailer. It implies the film hits the right tone with a bit of goofiness tempered with moments of suspense. You can see the trailer below.

The Thursday Murder Club cast:

  • Helen Mirren (The Queen, Gosford Park)
  • Pierce Brosnan (he was a Bond!)
  • Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Sexy Beast)
  • Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel)
  • Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker)
  • Daniel Mays (Atonement)
  • Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Anna Karenina)
  • Tom Ellis (Lucifer)
  • Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown, and many, many others)
  • David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch)
  • Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hot Fuzz)
  • Geoff Bell (Kingsman: The Secret Service)
  • Richard E. Grant (Saltburn, Withnail and I)
  • Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who)

Again, even if this cast was not acting and just standing around having a conversation, they likely would be wroth watching. That implies the movie should be excellent.
