Age-gap rom-coms are all the rage currently, it seems. This might be helped by some of the projects turning out a lot better than expected. This was the case with Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy when it turned out to be so much better than it should have. Will there be another Bridget Jones? Why stop now?
Getting back to the rom-com bit with featured actors that are years apart, there will be a new film coming, likely in 2026 or later, that will feature Natalie Portman as a woman who is turning 40 and just getting out of a long-term relationship. The New Yorker doesn't want to start dating again, but life does what it does, and she finds she is falling for someone much younger.
The twist is that Portman's character has two options. A 20-year-old Brooklynite who is seemingly very little like her, and a business professional who is in his 50s. In other words, does she want to risk having a bit of fun, or does she want to find someone who could be more long-term financially stable?
Netflix wins the bid to release new Natalie Portman and Lena Dunham project
According to Deadline, the bidding for the project was testy. Netflix, of course, won, but Warner Bros, Amazon, and Apple were also involved. The winning number was somewhere around $55 million, more than twice what the project was supposed to be valued.
This is not going to be just a normal Portman-led film, however. Lena Dunham will be writing and directing the movie (one assumes this will only be a film instead of a series). But we still need to wait a bit. Production is nowhere close to starting, as Portman is still in the stages of finishing Fountain Of Youth and The Gallerist. Dunham is still finishing another Netflix project titled Too Much.
That last part is a mini-series and will star Will Sharpe and Megan Statler. It does have an expected release date of sometime this year, but no firm date yet. You might remember Sharpe from the second season of The White Lotus. You might know Statler from Hacks.
The series will revolve around Statler's Jessica, who has moved to London after a breakup in New York. She meets Sharpe's Felix, who is thinking it might be time to find love again. (We can assume he does with Jessica, right?)
